I had occasion to shoot a P17 yesterday and it was kind of a blast. For cheap money it looked like something I might like to have, but I've seen varying reviews both pro and con. Any first hand experience or caveats would be appreciated. TIA..... |

| I have both the P17 & the Taurus TX22. I`ve had no problems with the TX22. the P17 started stovepiping & jamming. The extractor was locked up. I took it apart & removed the burrs, Keltec sent me a new spring cause of course I lost it. It worked great until last Friday, same problem. jams & stovepipes. failure to eject. I'll fiddle with it, but I think this time it goes back to the factory. My buddy's P17 has been great, but he prefers the TX22 also. |

| Well thanks for the reply and heads-up on the P17. The P17 is a bit of a "luck of the draw" situation, as I know a couple of folks who've had great success with them. Guess I'll stick with my Buckmarks. I tried the TX-22 Competition but quickly returned it due to the crappy barrel. (something I can't abide!) |

| I've sold a bunch of them and tx22. I had 2 tx 22 barrels with shit rifling I caught and sent back before I sold them. They both have run great. I wanna machinegun a tx 22 and a p17. |

| My TX22 is a laser, very accurate and very reliable. If it starts having issues I know it is time for a good cleaning and lube. I picked up the P17 about 3 months ago and have been very happy with it. It has the usual cheap ammo/dead primer load on occasion, but I have found it to be very accurate and reliable. If I ever reach the point where I cannot handle center-fire recoil, the TX or the P17 would be my carry choice with modern purpose-made self defense loads that are being marketed now. |

No problems at all other than the fact it certainly does NOT like Yellowjackets. They feed, but groups are ridiculously large. Something about the truncated cone bullet design I think. I keep it around for snakes when running the zero-turn. It also suppresses well. I'd buy another P17 if I can ever find the FDE or OD green versions. I had a TX 22, barrel leaded horribly so I replaced it. It then grouped horribly so I traded it off. |

Zero issues with my P17 and it's had thousands of rounds through it, pretty much exclusively suppressed. Every now and again I'll give it a quick clean, but mostly it's just making sure it runs WET. I've got a new trigger and optics mount coming for it, so I imagine I'll give it a detail clean when those shows up. For the price, it's a stupidly good .22 though. The biggest thing I've found between my CP33 and the P17 is they want to be soaked with lube to run well. |

Update on my P17. I got the RedDotMate plate in the mail today and got it mounted. Super easy to install and shoots pretty darn well, especially with the MCarbo metal trigger installed. (the trigger is a huge improvement, but kind of a pain to install from weird springs in the Keltec design) Zero feed/function issues with the plate and 507c installed using mini mag, CCI AR Tac, Clean 22 Suppressor, or CCI Standard Velocity. I honestly figured with the weight there would be some tuning needed, but so far so good. I did need to re mount the optic after the range trip as the optic screws worked loose a bit, so blue locktite for sure. Is it ridiculous? Yes. Is it fun? Also yes.

| Mine is not 100% but admittedly I have not shot it more than maybe a few hundred rounds. If I did, I bet it would smooth out. My CP33 on the other hand is 100% with CCI Standard and one of my favorite rimfire pistols to shoot! Come to think of it, didn’t I buy some of those magazines off of you, OP? |

How many guys did this design pass and not 1 person shot it suppressed? So many guntubers posted how wonderful the thing is and not 1 said it sucks suppressed and it does. I would not have bought it. Thought about getting the farrowtech kit and seeing if it helped, but not sinking the money in it. Too many other great options. |

| P17 is my favorite 22. When I’m plinking, I’ll grab it over the Mark IV. I carry it when out hiking. on my rural road (for coons and skunks and such). About 2000 rounds through it so far . . . and zero problems. It’s a ton of fun to shoot, and accurate to boot. |

Well, my wife's P-17 completed it's second range day yesterday.
The first trip had several jams with Mini Mags. I think we put maybe 100 rounds through the gun. 
The second trip started out with one failure to feed with a Mini mag, solved with a slide smack, and that was it, ran like a raped ape with everything we brought, Uppercut, Stingers, Eley HP, Mini Mags, and even some CCI 22 Longs I had along by mistake. Yes, it cycled a magazine of that with no problem., Obviously, not recommended. The wife proceeded to have good fun. Little blaster was fired at 7 yards, and the center of that B27 vanished quick. 
Da Boy shot at 25 yards on the Cowboy Steel gong, and hit 100%. I tried it at the same target and had the same result, almost like this pistol decided it had something to prove. 
Now, the cons... Single Action Only, with a concealed hammer. The wife will need a lot of practice drawing, (got a nice poly rig for it), wiping off the safety and firing, but I don't know off the top of my head about snap caps for 22lr. The ambidextrous safety is huge and easy for me to engage, but she has been striker fired only pistols for decades, nothing to fall back on. Trigger is HELLA light. I mean breathe wrong and it goes off light. If I could find a way to add a pound or two, I'd do it. Once we got used to that insanely light trigger, it was very easy to use. Amazingly enough, Da Boy did not like it much, and compared the muzzle blast as "like a 9mm" when I was shooting next to him. Umm, no. All I can say if he doesn't want one, I do. |

| I shot a magazine of CCI Mini mags through my P17 today. I had been shooting some cheap bulk stuff that wasn't super reliable: failure to load, failure to extract, light primer strikes, etc. Turns out the CCI's did the same thing. I guess I need to break it down to see if I can find out why this pistol is not as reliable as I had hoped it would be. |

One thing I noticed in the instructions is find a brand of ammo it likes, then stick with it. I think it can just be a finicky design, and designed for high velocity ammo to boot. I have to admit I was quite surprised when the 22 Longs worked just fine.

I polished my chamber and extractor claw (gently) and haven’t had any issues unless it’s crusted up from the suppressor. It If I could figure out a surefire way to dry out the internals, I’d dunk the frame in my ultrasonic to blast all the crud out. But after installing the mcarbo trigger (it’s a huge improvement) disassembling the frame is kind of a fiddly pain in the ass. |
