P-17 1.0 fired 152 rounds with no stoppages, used a CMMG Zeroed 22 suppressor and Baldr S green laser/light. It was used as a trade-in for a more expensive 22lr pistol. I got to missing it. P-17 2.0: pre buy inspection, the bore looked good, a few shallow tool marks, with adapter and Z22 suppressor installed the alignment looked good. Build quality looked very good, the only significant tool marks were on the hammer, polished they become lube reservoirs. Pre shooting, brushed the bore, polished it using 5 or 6 tight patches with Flitz metal polish. Some CLP was used where needed. Shooting was done with Z22 suppressor and Baldr S green, 7.5 yards, fast present and shoot and follow on shots. All aiming with the laser dot. Grip was right handed, two hand. Remington Golden Bullet Hollow Points: three mags, 16 +1. First mag no problems. Mag 2 two fail to battery, so slight I couldn't see them and couldn't feel the slide move when pushed forward, all fired after the push. All out of battery happened around mid mag full. Mag 3 one out of battery, mid mag, this I could see, slight push and it fired again. Remington Standard Velocity: three mags 16 + 1. No problems at all. RSV is softer shooting than RGBHPs. Target: all round holes, excellent hits and grouping! Same POI for both ammo types. Note: if you shoot out a part of the target the laser dot no longer shows on the target, because hole. Observations: P-17 points very well. Trigger, didn't notice it so it is that good, triggering does not move the laser dot on the target, this is a big deal. Hand hold: I don't come anywhere near the mag release, safety or slide lock and finger drag on the slide is impossible. Recoil: didn't notice it, the dot comes back to aim point very quickly. Brushing: the suppressor and slide don't need removal, the back of the slide comes up and a brush goes into the chamber easily. Ejector and hammer acts as rod guide. I brushed between ammo types. I do remove the suppressor before brushing though. Breech Fouling: almost none, the very open breech area vents fouling when shooting. Blow back: more than a M&P 22X, but not too bad. Comparison to MK IVs and 22X both suppressed: P-17 is noticeably lighter in a chest pack. All are fun to shoot. P-17 mags are hardest to load, MK IVs use a McFadden Ultimate Loader that loads mags sooo easily. P-17 and 22X hold more ammo than a MK IV, so they heat a suppressor more for each mag fired. Suppressor loosening: It happens on all three pistol types and it has to be hand tightened on all three. I give it a twist before, at mid mag and after each mag. Loading the + 1 round: the extractor easily moves around the rim of a single round placed in the chamber. There is no binding, no problem. Sights: are very visible. Laser dot is just faster and simpler than iron sights and dot optic. Under barrel rail: it's pretty short, the Baldr S is adjustable for that and fits well. Same Baldr S used on P-17 and a Glock 17.2 with add on rail, has close enough to the same POI to work on both. G17.2 is even easier to hit with than the P-17 and the P-17 is most excellent. Conclusion: P-17 is not the smallest but it is probably the lightest. Pair it with a Mustang 22 suppressor and Baldr S and chest pack from WalMart and it will be a very easy to carry and easy to live with pistol. |
