Was at the local shooting range with my daughter that I bought this cm40 for when she noticed the trigger would not reset after
the pistol was fired and chambered a new round. (Her CCW pistol.) She handed it to me, I ejected the live round with no primer strike and fired 2 more shots till trigger would not reset again. This happened several times with different new Kahr magazines and factory ammunition. (Winchester and Federal.) Gun has approximately less than 300 rounds out of it since purchased new in 2014. Gun has been cleaned and lubricated for her by me at least 2-3 times a year. Dad gives her a "loaner" pistol with a holster, and takes Kahr cm40 home with him to inspect. I start by disassembling all 3 magazines to find 2 out of 3 magazine followers are broken under the front lower feed lip in what looks to be impacts from the barrel. I also find the pistol will not lock back. I disassembled the slide to find the firing pin cracked at the rear just above the firing pin lug, and the firing pin lug all but rounded off/stripped at contact area with cocking cam. (Firing pin looks to be of MIM manufacture.) I contacted Kahr and obtained a return authorization, they got back to me fast with a pre-paid overnight shipping label and notified me of being 6-7 weeks out. A few weird things I noticed when trying to diagnose what was wrong with the pistol, was that I could get the striker to reset by pushing on the right side frame access panel and/or by cycling the trigger 2-3 times after cycling the slide. Hope this info helps anyone if needed. |

Update,
Received pistol back friday after 2 month's at Kahr. Racked slide and squeezed trigger approx 10 times without trigger failure. Here is the work order. 
I took the slide off and had noticed that the firing pin/striker had appeared to be the original. (Uh, oh!) Further disassembly of the slide had confirmed the same stripped striker lug, and cracked striker. (Despite the striker still operating.) Here is a picture of the striker removed from the slide. 
In the above pic, you can see the striker lug that engages the cocking cam somewhat stripped out. The striker is cracked on the other side of striker. (Hard to get clear pic with my crappy phone.) Here are the part's that were replaced. (Trigger bar, trigger spacer, trigger spring.) 
The side cover plate for the frame was tightened so tight, that it actually bowed the side cover plate. I took the liberty of ordering a new striker and will be repairing the pistol myself, as I have no intention of waiting another 2 month's. In the pictures with the trigger bar and trigger spacer washer, you will notice that Kahr places a bevel on the trigger bar (front and back of the trigger bar that contact's the spacer washer, and another bevel on the spacer washer that contact's the trigger bar.) My .02 cents: I think the trigger bar was binding/bent and put undue stress on the cocking cam and striker, and rendered trigger reset impossible at times. Now, just have to wait for the striker to arrive. Don't know why Kahr didn't see or replace the striker. Note: This pistol was sent back under Kahr 5 yr warranty and covered. Posted this for informational purposes, and people who's guns are not covered under warranty and need a starting point. |
