Is the RXM truly as good (or better) than the G19? (Page 1 of 2)

So, i've been watching a lot of videos comparing the RXM and the G19. Just looking at the features, there are four that really stand out to me:
Ruger/Magpul does all of this for exponentially less than a Gen5 Glock 19 So, I'm just wondering if those who have such high praise for the RXM really believe it is better than the G19 or a good lower-cost alternative. I'm thinking about picking up one or the other and just wanted some thoughts from others Thanks |

Well, I think it is. I bought one of the first ones that arrived at my LGS. I remember thinking that some suits at Glock probably wish they would have thought of it. I like the RXM enough that I sold my G45 MOS shortly after getting it. When Ruger/Magpul come out with the 17rd grip module I'll get one. |
Nobody is coming. It's up to you.
|
To me, yes. That said, even before the RXM came out, I've always been huge fan of the Glock design and action functionality, but dislike actual Glock pistols. I own probably 7 built, functional "glocks" and parts to assemble a handful more, but none of them aside from certain small parts are made by Glock. |
|
Better? No, until a large sample are run through legit trials or they've spent a few years in high volume competitive shooting usage I wouldn't unequivocally say it's even as good as a Glock. I just don't think that's something you can objectively say and "better" is such a nebulous term anyway. ARFCOM has been touting the next G19 killer since I've been on this board and it hasn't happened yet and really, I don't think it matters. People get wrapped up in "my stuff is better than your stuff" because it validates their choices, not because it's objectively better. My thoughts on your list: modularity - i like the ability to change out grip modules without it being a serialized part. I don't care Co-witnessed sights with front tritium site come standard I don't care, IMO irons aren't even required with a MRDS Direct mounted RMR optics capability Big plus Accepts Gen 3 Glock parts Big plus That being said, is it worth a look? If it has features you want then absolutely give it a go. There are a lot of things to recommend it and feedback seems positive. At heart it's a Gen 3 Glock so it's easy to understand, easy to work on, parts are available and cheap. If you buy one and it does the thing who cares what anyone else thinks? Worst case a RXM costs what 2 cases of ammo do and you could sell it if you hate it. |
|
It does have the "Not-a-Glock" feature that many people absolutely insist upon, and it doesn't use the inexcusably offensive marketing term "Perfection". That right there is good enough for about half of GD. If I wanted a Not-a-Glock, that's definitely the one I'd pick. |
|
It's better than Glock on the optic side alone. Not just rmr, but remember it also natively mounts DPP and rmsc (and Holosun K-Cut with new pins or a plate). Having that, plus actual quality sights immediately beats Glock. I think the Ruger RXM being able to natively mount a DPP footprint has been a major score for vortex and their Defender ST and Defender XL series. I am on several rxm groups on various websites, and it seems about 40% are sporting them. |

I bought one but it'll need a lot of time and rounds before anyone says "better" with a straight face. Ergos and feature improvements with modularity in mind...yeah, sure. Frame options from cheap to steep...love it. But a handgun has one/two job, that's to go bang every time you squeeze the trigger and never go bang until you do (2nd part mentioned for recent obvious reasons). Reliability is paramount. Glock fits that description. So does M&P and a few others. RXM is just too new to say. I have owned, and still own, Glocks. I think M&P is a better gun personally. But if someone said they were going to buy and own only one handgun and asked if Glock was a good choice, I'd say "yeah of course got get one". If they asked the same about the RXM, I'd say "probably best to shoot it a lot until it proves its reliability to you." |

I guarantee there are people out there who have shot more rounds through the rxm since it was introduced then most Glock owners shoot in several years. |

It has features either Glock doesn't or I would have to pay additional money for to get on top of already paying Glock prices. Frames, optics, sights. I've been exclusively a Glock guy since my first pistol almost 20 years ago. Which just happen to be a Glock 19 Gen3. It's only recently that I've owned non-Glock pistols. Everything else has been a Glock. I have no complaints. I don't need to fire 10,000 rounds downrange to trust it and I don't expect my experience to change. |

I’ve seen broken striker reports after <2,000 rounds. I’m not sure if that’s been fixed or not but worst case an OEM Glock striker would fix it. The early striker sleeves were garbage too but that may or may not cause issues. It will be annoying to get the back plate off though. |

Spoken like a tru Glock fanboi It's a lot better, and Glocks are not anymore expensive to sway anyone one way or another. The RXM iss everything Glock trys to be. I had both, sold the G19 gen 5 because the RXM is way better. |

The optics mounting system is way better, but the pistol is way too new to declare it way better than a Glock. |

I have a shit ton of Glocks and one of them is a Glock 19, and I have a RXM. I honestly believe the Ruger is what the Glock could have been a generation ago. It offers a lot more than a stock Glock does and not does it at a cheaper price, but also does not sacrifice in quality. It comes stock with a decent trigger, steel sights, and is optic ready. A lot of people don't care about the fact you can swap in grip modules, but I like that idea. I have been nothing but pleased with my Ruger, and I don't think much of Rugers in general. I have divested myself of every single one I have ever owned, except the couple .22 pistols I owned. |

But you can't discount the millions of rounds run through Glocks over the years. There are few handguns that are as proven, that's really all I was saying. Time in the game matters IMO. Personally, I don't think one can objectively say the RXM is better even if we all agree we like it more. Which I do. |

"Better" is mostly or even entirely subjective, based on personal preference, experience and/or a specific set of criteria. The design, features and cost of the RXM make it "better" for me. You may not share the same opinion, but it doesn't make my opinion any less true. Beyond the FCU, non-serialized grips and the grip angle (aka the design), the features of the RXM can be found on a Glock, but they will also come at a significantly higher cost. |

I just picked up a RXM over the Labor Day weekend. I wouldn't say it's better than the Gen 5, G19 right off the bat but it does have some nice features that the Glock does not have. I don't have many rounds through it yet but I do like it. I hope it proves as reliable as my Glock 19s. Regardless, I won't be selling any of my G19s. LOL One thing I noticed is that while it fits in Glock holsters, it fits a bit looser than my GG19 and Combat Armory frames. |

Thanks for all the replies, everyone. I am going to go look at one tomorrow. I'm thinking about the RXM, G19 and the Echelon 4.0C I currently have a Glock 21 and 41 as well as a Shadow Systems Mr920P. I have the Echelon 4.5F as well. So, i am familiar with the Glocks and the Echelon. Just intrigued by the good reviews for the RXM at such a low price point |

| If you have one next to you, today I got an email from Academy Sports and they have them on sale. They have them for $50 off and if you have an Academy credit card, they're only $332 otd with the additional 5% off. I usually pay off the c.c. right after I buy something due to the interest rate. |
Be the change you want in this world.

Seems like a no brainer at $350. Finally pulled the trigger on an order at Academy to try one out. I need to sell crap, but keep catching bargains recently with a Sar P8L, B6, and now this rxm. Family gonna have to deal with this crap when I’m gone. |

I'm slowly joining the crowd impatiently waiting for Magpul to release the full sized grip module. I really want a Glock 45, but the RXM is cheaper and has features I won't have to pay extra to buy. Every time I watch an RXM video or see a picture online, I feel a compulsion to buy a second RXM so I can eventually have a Ruger G19 and G45. |
| Picked up the RXM yesterday. I think the trigger is somewhat better than a stock Glock trigger and it feels great it in my big paws. I got it for a bit less than 4 bills without tax. |
I started out with nothing and still have most of it left. If you wanna spread stuff, spread Good stuff. TY
| The RXM is good , but I don`t think it has enough time out there , to say its better than a G 19 , I like the Ruger trigger better and the thing feels good in the hand , and the Ruger would get the job done , but better than my 19 M or 17 m , or gen 5 Glock I don`t think so . |

I guess the way I see it, on paper, in the hand, at the range, the RxM is better. Regarding durability in the long haul...well, we don't have the data. With that said, Ruger generally builds stout pistols and its a copy of a Glock. If something breakable breaks, I have spares. |

I havent been to the range with my RXM yet but i was wondering if anyone has felt the need to do any upgrades. Barrels? Slides? Traggers? Mag Releases? Etc Glocks and their clones seem to be the ultimate tinker toy. Just wondering what you guys have done to yours Thanks |
