Just found out Colts is now making the 1911 Governments 70 series in stainless and 9mm with the classic slide serrations. Just had to order one. I know what I'm up against (sharp corners, possible awful trigger), and it will take time and effort to make it nicer, but I'm ok with it. Actually excited to take it apart and clean up the slide rails and trigger. https://www.colt.com/detail-page/1911-classic-government/ anyone else take the plunge on this one? |

Attached File Picked her up today, and what an improvement over my late 2023 Colts GC 9mm, the super sharp edges are gone, still a little sharp but not as bad. Trigger is ok, will clean it up. To my surprise the FFL sent me a SAU gun, thought it was oil stains on the slide, but it was something else. Hit it will a green scotchbrite pad & some slip 2000 EWL, after carefully masking off the glass beaded areas and was able to clean up the blem fairly quickly. Also was able to smooth out the roughness around the laser marks, and it looks much cleaner and feels better too. Slide doesn't rattle and all other controls work and feel good. Overall really like it, very impressed Colt cleaned up it's act. My only beef is with the SAU sticker with the FFL, but again got a smoking deal and was able to clean up the blem no issues. Oh put on my grips off my 1983 GC NM, looks and feels good to me :) |

| I bought a new 9mm series 70 gov about 2yrs ago. Grew up drooling over the colt catalogs of the 80s. Massive dissapointment. Extractor was tight so it jammed. Trigger had a catch point. Took it to a local shop and he made it right. It had some casting burrs he smoothed out. Did a trigger job. I would expect better quality at that price. |

I hear you, my 2023 Gold Cup NM blued, was a big disappointment, chose that over a SIG P210 which were about the same price at the time, paid a lot more for it then the classic. The trigger was awful, probably around 9-10 lbs, the trigger itself was badly discolored. Sent it back to Colts before I knew how to do my own triggers and it was better, but still not great. Watched a tutorial by a retired state trooper and got a nice 3.5 lb pull. Every edge was sharper then it should be. The GC's slide rattles on the frame, but it does shoot nicely. Never a jamm and prints holes well. Upon return from Colts, they jammed the grip screws of the GC into the bushings lol. What hacks. So glad they upped their game on the Classic. |
