 So I happened to stop by my LGS a week ago to pick up a transfer, and they had a new Gen 6 G19 with an Aimpoint COA. I already own a gen 5 G19 with an Aimpoint COA, and I wanted a G45 with a COA, but I figured, what the heck. I could use another  Anyhow, I like the gun thus far. No malfunctions after 250+ rounds. I already installed an Apex Gen 6 trigger (Apex trigger, connector and trigger bar……I did not change the striker spring). I honestly like the stock Gen 6 trigger, but I was hoping for something closer to the Glock Performance trigger I have installed in all of my Gen 5s. This is why: Gen 5 with performance trigger, see where my finger breaks:  The trigger is flat at the break, 90 degrees to the axis of the slide, just like a 1911. It’s what I prefer typically. Gen 6 with Apex trigger (and the stock trigger does the same):  I notice it slightly when shooting. I definitely prefer the Glock Performance trigger on my Gen 5 G47, 19X and 19. Shooting impressions of the Gen 6: 1. No malfunctions over 250 rounds thus far 2. I have to use the large back strap on the Gen 6. On the Gen 5, I only use the medium. This is due to the shorter reach of the Gen 6 trigger (Apex is nearly the same as the stock in terms of reach). I really want a Glock performance trigger for the Gen 6 with a longer length of pull or “trigger reach”. 3. I swear that the recoil impulse (not the actual force, but perception of it), is slightly less with the Gen 5’s dual recoil spring than the Gen 6 single recoil spring. Maybe I am smoking crack. Nothing of course beats the Gen 5 G47 I own compared to any other Glock with an optic….. 4. I love the Gen 6 frame for two reasons: The higher undercut on the trigger guard allows me to get my hand up higher on the frame, easier to control and draw from a holster on a shot timer than even a Gen 5 frame that is hand stippled. It really is the selling point of the gun. Second, the grip texture is as or more aggressive than the Walther PDP, which I love. It beats the hand stipping I had done on my Gen 5s and Gen 3s. I am going to keep doing drills from a holster with the Gen 6, because I really like the grip despite my minor gripe about the trigger and back strap. 5. The ledge on the frame protecting the slide stop is annoying. I already installed a Tango Down slide stop (which I only use on my Gen 3s), to give me a little more metal to grab because the ledge gets in my way. I of course have the opposite issue with the VP9 and Walther PDP, because my thumb would constantly hit the slide stop. 6. Backstrap: I really wish Glock would have kept the design of the Gen 5 back straps, and allow the beavertail to be optional. Now, I am a person who likes beavertails, but the point is, when you add a back strap to a gun that already has a beavertail, it just feels a little strange. The shape of the side panels and the rest of the frame makes up for it, but I prefer the continuous line of material on the Gen 5 beavertail back strap to the Gen 6’s beavertail with a back strap added to it. The Gen 5 system just makes more sense. Oh, and the Aimpoint COA is great of course. Should have picked up another COA Gen 5 last summer before they stopped selling them. All in all, the gun is a keeper. I will report back in a month once I top 1000 rounds. What I really want is a Gen 6 frame (the trigger guard undercut, frame texture) with Gen 5 internals. That would be peak Glock. |

Thanks for the observations. I don't know if/when I would buy a new Glock, but it's good to have some real world info. Does it work in the same holsters as earlier gen guns? |

Holsters: I have tried the Gen 6 in a basic vedder holster (G17 and G19) I use at matches and a fancier holster from Gunfighters Inc. Both work fine with the Gen 6 frame. No issues. Again, I think people need to think about the back strap set up in conjunction with the pre-existing beavertail. Lucas Botkin for instance sawed his bevertail off. I like bevertails, but they should have kept the Gen 5 system in place for people who like and don’t like beavertails. I LOVE the higher trigger guard cut. Makes a huge difference with the G19 for a few extra millimeters of grip. Would like to see a longer trigger reach like on the Glock performance trigger, and I want it to break at 90 degrees (flat to my finger), much like a 1911. I will be patient, but the Apex works much like the older Gen 3 trigger Apex makes. I will try to get out again this weekend and put 200-300 rounds through it. Depends upon work. Work too damn much. |

+1 Slight changes in grip can affect muscle memory. I have a feeling there will be third party vendors offering different contoured back straps or something that blends in better with the beavertail. I am still faster with a gen 5 G47 or my Wilson EDC X9 black edition (both run Trijicon RMR HDs). I will be patient and wait for different options, etc. I actually am suprised I was able to resist a gen 6 this long anyway. I was also seriously thinking about finding a non-MOS gen 5 G45 and having the slide milled for an Aimpoint COA. Very hard combo to beat (full sized grip, get grip stippled, glock performance trigger, Aimpoint COA). I have a G19X running a RMR HD, but for some reason, the COA just sits nicer on the Glock 19/45 slides. The G47 is like a long slide, so it runs just fine (it's a competition gun). |

Only got to put another 100 rounds in each gun side by side last weekend (had to work). Will try again this weekend. I still prefer the gen 5 with the performance trigger over the gen 6 with the Apex trigger. It has to do with where the trigger breaks and I feel the dual recoil spring on the G19 gen 5 is better than the Gen 6’s recoil spring. Yes, I said that for the G19. No idea if it applies to the gen 6 G17/45 |

I have a weird schedule this week. Went to the range Tuesday night and put another 200+ rounds through my gen 6. I installed Night Fision sights on my gen 6 COA (yellow front). I like them much better than the XS sights. Comments: 1. In the 90+ degree heat, the grip texture of the gen 6 sure does help. It sits in my hands better than the Gen 5 I won that was hand stippled. No slip, none. 2. I am starting to get more used to the trigger (Apex or OEM) on the gen 6. Simple grip/hand adjustments (very subtle) and just time/practice. 3. Zero malfunctions 4. With the gun broken in, I think the recoil is now the same as the gen 5. I shot both back to back, then focused in on the gen 6. It’s very subtle if any. |

| Having both of each to compare…. The Gen 6 COA milling is slightly not as deep because of the new extractor design. Ever so slightly. Like the new grip frame and it hasn’t bothered me yet meaning the beaver tail. Trigger replaced with Overwatch precision poly DAT, minus OEM connector, extended slide stop, and Radian Gen 6 ramjet along with Rival arms RSA. Paired with X300U and now I have an updated Roland special. |

Feels better in the hand than even the RXM, and I got that specifically due to having a better grip than the G19. Actually considered getting the gen 6 G19, and convert the RXM into a PDW, but no one seems to have the COA model in stock anywhere. Radian is supposed to be releasing their G17.6 ramjet closer to the end of the year. Be a bit of a weird combination with the el-cheapo harbor freight light I got on sale

I went out Monday afternoon to shoot both the gen 6 G19 and gen 6 G17. Both have Aimpoint COAs. As mentioned before, my G19 now has an Apex trigger installed and Night Fision sights. Both of those features will definitely get applied to my G17 soon. Anyhow, zero malfunctions with the gen 6 G17. I just really wish Glock would have stuck with the same trigger reach as on the gen 5. I definitely need a longer trigger. I ran a large back strap. It is fairly easy to pull shots low unless you adjust your grip. I’d also like to add that I was able to buy a Milt Sparks Optics ready Vm-2 holster for my G19. I own several VM-2s, but this is my first tan colored ones. I swear the tan leather is more comfortable to wear than the black leather ones for some reason. Anyhow, the holster is perfect for the Glock 19 COA. Fits both gen 5 and gen 6. Very comfortable to wear. I would buy again. Edited to add: Recoil on G17 exactly the same as the G47, which is a good thing of course. I really felt like I was shooting a gen 3 G17 with iron sights (which is also a good thing). Just wish the trigger reach was the same as my Gen 5s with glock performance triggers. Then it would be perfect. In the 100 degree heat, the grip texture pays its dues compared to my hand stippled gen 5s. I will be patient and wait for a Glock performance triggers or something with a longer reach..
