I got the Heritage Rough Rider Small Bore 32 H&R Magnum in today. I have been looking on line for reviews or videos on this new offering, and I was surprised to see a small spate of them from 10+ years ago. Evidently they released a short barrel version of this back in the day. Oddly, I can't find a single video on the newer 6.5" barrel version release other than boilerplate ad copy.

I have never owned nor spent time with a Heritage Rough Rider. I have single-sixes and have always used them for my SA 22LR revolver needs. The gun seems to be put together pretty well, no obvious icks or crappy workmanship. Finish is a matte black coating of some sort, evenly applied and functional with a few light spots or wear on the Zamak grip frame and ejector rod housing. The frame itself, barrel, cylinder, base pin, and hammer are all steel. Grips are fairly blocky hard plastic, with really good texture.
The gun came mostly clean and dry, no packing oil or other residue on it other than the base pin and cylinder. Cable lock included, of course.
Sights are rudimentary and problematic for my 63 year old eyes; I will look into widening the notch and painting the front sight in the future, but they worked well enough on a bright sunny day.

I didn't shoot any groups, as I have the flu and wouldn't be giving an honest result., I did stop for a quick cylinder-full at 40 yards, and was able to easily hit the 6" gong every shot, which shocked me, frankly. Off-hand, first shots with the gun, shooting 32 S&W Long ammunition.  Trigger is AMAZINGLY good for what the gun is. The faintest little creep, then a clean break at 2.75 pounds pressure. Recoil and report tells you it's not a 22, 2.5 times the mass at about half the velocity of modern 22 LR actually feels very different. I bought a box of 32 H&R but didn't shoot any today.
I also have dies, 32 S&W, 32 S&W Long, and 32 H&R brass coming in. I already cast a 90 grain bullet suited to this, and have 500 of the 100 grain HST and 65 grain JHP bullets I got from American Reloading a long time ago for another project.  I have little expectation that I can get good penetration and expansion in the 32 H&R with bullets made for the 32 Super Carry, but they might work. I don't know how much one could safely "hot rod" the round in this gun, but it does have a steel cylinder. We'll see what happens down the road.

I like it. I like it a lot, actually. It would really boil down to whether or not you have a use for a 6.5" SA revolver that is more powerful than a 22 but not having the monstrous recoil of the 38 Special; it would be a nice trapline gun or to instruct youngsters. Ammo costs are silly compared to 22 LR, but I will be loading with scrap lead and surplus powder so that brings it back in line with much greater potential for accuracy and reliability over the rimfire round.

The manual gives weight and measurements for the 6.5 and a 4.75 barreled gun. If the shorter gun ever actually hits the market I will almost certainly get one.  I wish Rossi would bring their lever carbine out in 32 H&R or 327 Fed. That would be a hoot.

Glad to see someone get one. I currently don't have any single actions and this one interests me for some random reason. I just wish factory ammo prices weren't so ridiculous

I had no idea they were making a 32 version.  I might get one if reasonable.  How much are they?
