First of all, I love a 1911, but really want a double stack 1911. That said $1500ish is my upper limit. So, it looks like: AF Romulus 5” matte with port comp Apollo 11…..but I hear they are all suspect Prodigy….really no chance I’m spending money on an SA, but my last 2 guns were SA guns…ugh Tisas DS Comp 5” That is kind of what I see to select from. Glock type reliable 9mm DLC or other durable black finish No bad MIM…..ideally no MIM, but some seems ok’ish. 30-36 oz Want a good feeling trigger 3-4lb ideally. Smooth running. Shoots flat. My last option is Stacatto P which means I need to sell some guns off to be in that market. |

I just picked up the Tisas to dip my toes into the 2011 world Out of the box the fit is tight, maybe a bit oversprung The grip is big and not real grippy. I'm not a GD millionaire that can spend $1k on a Cheely grip so I spent $15 on some adhesive sandpaper grips ![]() Comes with an optic plate for RMR footprint, different (proprietary?) than the MAC9 that uses the AOS style plates, and several sets of optic screws I ran 250rds of hot 115gr and 100rds of NATO 124gr without issue I'll run it up to 1k rds and see how it is, maybe do some polishing or changing springs It's not as smooth as a Staccato XC but it's 1/4 the price and still shoots fast and flat if I do my part ![]() ![]() ETA: Release/discussion thread https://www.ar15.com/forums/handguns/Tisas-now-has-full-rail-2011-s-/57-218928/ |

If you like Glock mags look at the Fusion XPros. They have a few different models, pretty much 2011s that take Glock mags. I have a 4in that uses 17 mags. They have some comped models, and a 3.5 that uses Glock 19 mags. Mine has been great. I also have a Platypus and I do like it a little better then the Fusion because of the grip shape, but the Fusion is cheaper and you can get one like right now. The Fusion's grip us also removable, so there could be some aftermarket ones with a better shape available one day. James |

Just keep in mind that some break-in and/or tinkering may be needed. At the minimum, you will probably want a lighter recoil spring and grip tape. The stock FCG parts are decent and can be polished/tuned pretty easily (and not MIM). Or you can get aftermarket parts, if you prefer. |

This Turkatto DS9 Carry has been a whole lot of fun and functions so well I couldn't believe it. Bought it used, modified it for preference, and am very happy knowing I paid a fraction of Staccato money. Attached File |

Frankly, I thought this was a great gun except for the racking force of the new pistol. Very flat with the hot 115’s, and quick accurate splits are easy Safety levers are a good size and engagement is very positive Trigger can definitely be lightened, it’s heavy ootb It’s decently smooth so I’m gonna keep shooting it as-is and see how it wears in For the impatient, could probably drop the spring weights and benefit from a good polish job |

For an inexpensive entry into the platform, I have no regrets. It's fun to shoot and has been extremely reliable so far even if it has a few things that could be slicked up a bit (but overall they're minor and would be inexpensive to do, I'll probably get around to it one day). |

Got a 4.25 Romulus last night to hopefully upgrade from a Tisas. Side-by-side comparison at the gun counter between a 2k11, Romulus, and Stacatto... all three triggers felt identical to me, which was a surprise. The Romulus had no detectable machine marks, the the Kimber certainly did. In the end, I got the cheapest out of the three. Won't make it to the range for another 5 days... |
And then, he arrives at the last item on his bucket list...

The optic cut on a 1911/2011 isn't supposed to be level with the slide, nor should the optic be While the slide runs parallel with the rails the barrel is inclined downward at about 1° while in lockup so the optic & cut should match |

| My Alpha Foxtrot S15 also needed a shim as the optic would not zero with just the slide milling. Seems to be a common enough problem since there are companies offering 1* delrin shims for multiple reddot footprints. 5-6 Primary Machine milled slides and not one of them needed a shim. |

I have a Prodigy, and a Tisas DS 2011. The prodigy looks better, and the fit and finish is a little better....but the Tisas seems much smoother when I shoot it. Also, the Tisas ran right out of the box....I had to adjust the extractor on the Prodigy because it was so tight the gun didn't want to go back into battery after every shot. I don't feel any difference in the trigger between the two at all. They are both really nice shooters. Hard to go wrong with a Tisas for the price. I picked mine up when they were cheap...I think it was $550-ish. |

Not to be deterred when I found out my Tisas DS9 couldn't be zeroed, I used a field expedient method- an SD card from an old cell phone. Works well enough that I never replaced it. ........ Going to shoot my new Romulus in a few hours. Stoked. ETA> The magazine release stopped working after only around 30 rounds expended. Long story short- a 5/16 drill bit is the perfect size to re-drill the magazine catch hole in the (plastic) grip. About one second of moderate speed was all it took. Dug out the plastic shavings, and re-installed the release. Works good now. While I was at it, I lowered the trigger pull by approx 1 lbs. Both of those things kinda killed the joy of the first range outing, but the next one ought to be quite good. |

I hate to say this, but I never liked any of my Staccatos ('19P, C2, C2 threaded, XC, 2024 C with full size grip). I'm okay with the Apollo 11 v2 subcompact but I do love my early release Platypus. I'm trying a Staccato C3.6HD right now, but it needs a flat trigger. Once I get that, I might actually keep a Staccato. lol |
|
I'm a huge fan of my Platypus. Used it in two comps so far, and genuinely don't really want to shoot anything else. I don't have a ton of rounds through it, maybe 1,200 or so but it's been 100% so far.
It actually does not have a Glock grip angle: 1911 ~18 degrees, Glock ~22 degrees, Platypus 17.5 |

An iffy optic cut will be less noticeable on a 5” slide because you’ll likely have enough adjustment range on the dot to compensate. On shorter slides, that marginal cut may be too great to dial out. |

The Kimber DS Warriors are getting great reviews. I just picked one up but haven't shot it yet. Waiting on the optic to arrive. Fit is very good with a tight slide-to-frame fit. Very tight bushing (it's a bushing barrel). Finish is nice. 9mm frame is aluminum, steel for 10mm, 38 Super and 45. Anyway, we'll see how it does in my hands. But I've yet to see a bad review on the interwebs. Attached File |
Don't worry scro...

I snagged a used but not shot much rock island 2011 cheap to test the waters. It shoots very well, feels super smooth, has a fully adjustable rear sight, and has ran 100% so far. I still shoot a stock Glock better so we will keep shooting it and see. Attached File |
Game on!

Just picked up a base model Kimber 2K11. It is surprisingly nice for the price. Tighter slide to frame fit than my P211 and custom Prodigy. It was just under $1500. Currently waiting on an optic. Attached File on an optic. Attached File |

I’d suggest poking around for a dealer holdover MAC or a deal on a used one—caveat being that the used one doesn’t have a butchered trigger job, terrible texturing job, etc. The MAC will let you “dip your toe” into the 2011 pond without forking out a bunch of money for something you may end up not liking all that much. Also, some of the novelty of various 1911-pattern guns that use Glock mags is now gone, in my opinion, with the introduction of the MEC-GAR mags. These seem solid and can pretty easily be found for under $40. Still kind of pricey, but not as pricey as spending a grand or more just to use $12 Glock mags. Lastly, the P211 uses SIG mags… but not really. New base plates will have to be added to 320 mags to make them fit the gun. The base pads, depending on what you buy, are close in price to MEC-GAR 2011 mags. |

The base pads, depending on what you buy, are close in price to MEC-GAR 2011 mags. in the past couple years, the 2011 mag situation has improved significantly, espeically with atlas offer there mags for around the 40 dollar price point and alot of the issues assoicated with early 2011 issues were mag qc issues. With that being said, i like the idea of having a hyrbid 2011 that takes a mag that you can find at most big box retailers. for example, i dont think ive ever seen a 2011 mag at cabelles, acadamy or sportsmans warehouse. its not a driving factor, but it is nice to know that if i need a mag this afternoon, there are about a dozen places to source one on my way home. with that being said, i have 15ish 2011 mags and 3 320 mags. |

The Mec-Gar mags have worked fine for me. I did have to file my Cheely mag catch a tiny bit because it was sticking into the mag enough to interfere with the follower, but this hasn’t been an issue on any of my other 2011s. |

| I know it's not important for everyone, but I gotta say I REALLY like being able to just use Glock mags in my Platypus. If you don't already have a bunch it would be less important, but if you're already stacked deep in them it's pretty nice. |
