Their pricing is exceptional, so I've made a testing order with some 300BLK supers and subsonics. We'll see. I want clean and consistent. I don't need match grade for these. If those are good, I'll try some 9mm. I just loaded up heavily with Freedom who seemed to be clearing out inventory so I took advantage. I have had excellent luck with these rounds. HSL has 223 subsonics which may be a fun way to run my Mini14. Freedom/LAX and 2A Warehouse have been treating me very well for a long time now but, diversity is a good thing. |

I finally got an opportunity to run some HSL 300BLK subsonic. I only ran 90 rounds this afternoon. It came in a bulk box of 500. The accuracy is acceptable. Not great compared to what I'm used to though. I only shoot off hand so I may need to do more adjusting to get me tuned it. No bench testing, so take that into consideration. This is filthy ammo. I cannot believe how much crap comes out of my gun in all directions and it leaves oily residue on everything. Just loading the ammo, my hands were covered in a black oily substance as well. I have not run any of this through a chronograph, but I get a supersonic round from time to time. I was running this on my 16" dedicated subsonic gun so that may play into this. I need more data to properly evaluate this ammo but here is my first impression. If you want to argue about barrel length, fine, but this was a brace ban build, and it has been definitively my quietest gun in subsonic. Please keep this in context. So, my first impression is that this is dirty ammo with inconstant velocity. I may be wrong, and definitely need more testing but I wanted to share my first impressions with the crew. Eventually I'll run some of their 150gr supersonic in my gun built for that and will report on what I learn. Fingers crossed I'll have time next weekend. We'll see. Hopefully this is useful to someone. This being a hand gun forum, I get that this may not be relevant but I did want to share what I found on a new to me manufacturer. Eventually I'll get some 9mm 147gr and test that and will share. |

I am glad to hear the owner is good. I have since run the 150 grain supersonic and found it to be pretty much as dirty as the subsonic. It was consistent on point of impact and no feeding issues, but it is still a mess. I did provide all of this feed back to the company and have not heard anything. Not sure if its worth it based on my experience so far, but I may try 500 rounds of 147gr 9mm. Based on what I've seen so far, the value of what you get is directly related to the price. My goal is to always support American manufacturers and especially small shops, but to keep that going, they need to provide good products. Currently, my assessment is that HSL is not providing good products for folks who run traditional suppressors. If not running those, you may be just fine. One must be fair and balanced in judging products I think. |

Glutton for punishment here. I decided to get 500 rounds of 147gr 9mm to try. It landed yesterday. I opened the box and got fistful of oily grease on my hands when handling the ammo. Consistent with what I've seen from the 300BLK. Not nice. Some cases have small dents and so forth. It is reloaded, so I can live with that as long as it cycles. I did have some nickel-plated rounds here and there. Performance shouldn't matter and I kinda like the little surprises. I am concerned that some of the bullets swell the cases and others do not. This may be okay but not something I've seen in other reloaded ammo I've bought. Due to daylight this time of year, I'll have to wait to run some until this weekend. I am not hopeful but will report honestly. |

I finally ran 100 or so rounds of HSL 147gr through an M&P 2.0 hand gun, with an Odessa 9 silencer with 7 baffles on it. Surprisingly this was not as dirty to shoot as was the 300BLK. It was consistent for accuracy with me shooting steel targets at 12-20 yards, off hand. I think it's a bit weak as one mag had a hard time feeding. I've had no issues with this particular mag on any other ammo. The round would be partially fed and lightly jamb up. Easy to clear. Could be the grease / grime on the ammo clogging things up too. All my other mags had no issues. My first impression is that this is acceptable 147gr 9mm. Externally dirty as all get out, yet reliable with when everything is perfect. The price cannot be beat though so this not being personal protection ammo, I'll be okay with this as it adds clearing issues training into the mix, which I need. I'll run more in different firearms with different suppressors and see how it goes. |

I thought an update would be helpful. The 300BLK has been running fine, though dirty. I've run a few hundred rounds of 45ACP with no issues and it is clean enough. I just wrapped up 1,500 rounds of 9mm 147 gr and it is also clean enough. My earlier dirty batches appear to have been the anomalies. In the last 1,000 rounds I had three bad primers. HSL quickly responded and sent me a discount code and an apology. This being for training, I can live with less than perfect ammo, as long as it is safe, and this ammo appears to be so. The pricing continues to be better than most places so I'll keep running it fully understanding you get what you pay for. Attached File |
