I have owned a Cobra Classic (matte frame, polished cylinder) for about 8 years. It came with the factory laminate wood grips with the stippling patches and medallions:  Stock photo:  I've always found them a bit chunky and not the most secure, and would like to replace them with some hardwood grips-probably cocobolo or ironwood. Many manufacturers' grips attach to the same hardware the rubber Hogue grips that come on the base model Cobra do, with a single screw from the bottom going into the nut assembly thing held to the grip frame with a pin; but because my gun came with the factory wood grips it doesn't have that hardware-just the screw going from one side to the other securing the 2 piece grips. Does anybody sell the hardware to convert these from the side to side screw attachment method to the screw in from the bottom type? Or does anybody make actual hardwood grips (not laminate) that attach using the same method as my factory grips? I'd also prefer something that gives my pinky finger a more secure purchase. |

Hogue make fancy wood grips with their Mono-Grip mounting stirrup. https://www.hogueinc.com/firearm-accessories/grips?cat=866%2C24%2C3429 They are reported to do some custom work not listed on the site, so you might ask about your fit needs. I'm sure Hogue would sell new stirrup hardware, but only Hogue grips are usable with it. Most all other grips are two piece, and unless you glue them together a Hogue system won't work. |

Grips arrived today, and they both look and feel better than I expected. All hardware was included as you said, and the install was straightforward. The stock laminate grips were too large to get a good grip on and the texturing wasn't very aggressive. They also had this sharp trough at the top rear of the grip frame that would cut into the web of my hand after a few cylinders at the range. I plan to pick up a few more newer Colt revolvers and these will very likely end up on all of them.
