I am looking at getting into the GSSF and I have a couple of questions on how to get started. As a retired LEO, I take it I would register with the GSSF as a “Guardian”…correct? I did shoot Cowboy Action for a couple years, but it has been several years since I have shot in a match. Would that put me in the “Master” category? At this point I own two Glocks, a G20 and a G21 (Both stock), so it looks like I would be shooting in the “Heavy Metal” and/or “Guardian” divisions? Thanks… |

Having shot other types of competition does not make you master class unless you happen to be top dog in those matches( the rules posted on the gssf website list the ways you qualify to be considered master class, so unless you won a national level match in another shooting event I would not worry about it)
You could shoot in guardian ,heavy metal as well as competition and unlimited with a 21. |

Don't feel like you have to get a gun for each one (unless you want to ) Having 10 mags for each division would be way more handy than an extra gun. I have a couple 34's but I don't bother taking them for competition, I'll shoot my 17 in Master Stock and Competition.

I have a 42 19 and 26. Each is the result of a match win in gssf which got me to master class. Since being a master have only won a single gun ( I am sort of a bottom level master - usually in the top 10-12 masters at a match. Got lucky last year that I came in 4th at a match but due to rules that masters can only win one award gun per match, and the 3 shooters above me placed 1st for prize guns in other divisions won my first pistol as a master.
Other than needing a gun to fit the rules of a division ( such as pocket or subcompact) Don’t worry too much about what gun you shoot. I reviewed my scores for the last 5-6 years and my average score regardless of what pistol I shot was within one second or at most two. Based on the course of fire and generous size of the targets I found I can shoot my 26 and end up with a score just as good as with the bigger guns |

In billings montana a few years ago there was a gal with a food truck. She mentioned having a Glock at home that she never shot. Before she knew it she had a loaner handgun and ammo. Everyone coached her along. It was great! |

I let my GSSF expire when they stopped shooting at CFRPC, but noticed when I was taking a class in Volusia that they’re holding events there. Think I’ll spring for a lifetime now… Can’t wait to see how it has changed since I last shot in 2017 or so
