Thank you for performing this test.  I was surprised as to how well this round did out of a pocket LCP after being underwhelmed by what ShootingTheBull410 tested.  Given that it had adequate penetration through heavy clothing while expanding much larger than expected, I think it's a contender with XTP rounds.  Classic HST performance.  Your work is greatly appreciated.

The velocity was higher than expected which probably helps the HST performance.  Thanks for posting!

That is damn impressive for .380

I think Federal might have fixed this load. Look at the pics from the Lucky Gunner testAttachment Attached File

And look at OPs pic

They look different to me. Bigger hole.

Also LuckyGunner averaged 893Fps in Glock
Op averaged 967Fps in a LCP.

If this is the norm now I'd gladly carry HST.

Thanks 5pins!

That's a good catch they do look different.

Thanks!  I suprised myself sometimes.

My 1st thought was.  Why such a difference between your test and previous tests?

Thanks for the results!

That must be a pretty snappy load from the LCP with that velocity?

Lucky gunner, through some type of voodoo magic, managed to get a load that over expands and under penetrates in every test, to fail to expand AT ALL. They screwed something up.

Pretty good results, I hadn't considered these since luckygunner and ShootingTheBull410 both had poor results with their tests. It appears federal revised the design.

For additional data.
@46F and 666 ASL, 904 FPS for 7 shots of Hornady Critical Defense FTX 90gr out of LCP-II.  ES 31, SD 12.0 measured with labradar.
The FTX actually were painful to shoot, that HST is going to take it up a notch.  I picked the FTX because of the past issues with the HST.  I really appreciate you posting this thread and bringing the change to my attention.  Even though it appears I need tougher hands....

ETA : Also the format of the blog is much less painful than forcing me to watch youtube.

Gotta be easier on the hands than what I'm using now.
Underwood +p XTP.

The RM380 handled them very well.  Bit of a handful in my P3AT.

Shooting the bull uses organic gel. The results wont be the same.

I'm getting ready to try these out in a newly acquired Rock Island Baby Rock .380 1911.

It's got a full inch more barrel than the LCP, so perhaps that'll help with ensuring consistent expansion.   I'm going to try some of these along with some Speer Gold Dots.
