Have a friend of my mother who is looking to sell a old luger. I have not seen the gun in person, and only have gotten a couple pictures via text. It is in a different state, so I can not see it in person, so I would be getting it shipped to me by a dealer for transfer. I have talked to the guy on the phone. From what I can gather, it is a DWM and dated 1914. It has the stylized DWM on the toggle. From what he can see, all the numbers match that he can see, but he has not and probably will not disassemble it. He thinks it is like new, but is unsure of the value. I told him it may be refinished and he agrees it may be, but he does not know for sure. It is a very shiny and glossy blue. So it is a obvious reblue/refinish to me. It does look to be in very good condition otherwise. It is missing the magazine. Any idea of a fair price. Most I can find online value wise is geared towards military and collectable models. I would buy it as a shooter as I know collector value is badly degraded with the gloss refinish. He says the bore is in good condition from what he can see. |

Prices are always changing, but i bought my 1918 dwm luger in 9mm for about $1700 after sales tax and shipping. This was probably 2020ish. This waa a time when 30 cal luger was impossible to find, so i sprung for the cheapest shooter that was in 9mm. What i got was a luger produced at the end of ww1, where it was stamped with military proofs, and then marked as "see for police use!!" Due to the treaty. I have a mismatched trigger and toggle pin, but the replacements are well fitted very well. It also came from a huge collection, owned by one of the authors of a book about lugers, so it's history is featured in that book. Prices are always changing, but its all depending on condition. From the pictures, yours looks like it's about the same condition as mine. I would say take it apart and verify the numbers match before making an offer. Most don't have numbers on the mags or grips, but then some do. Mine has a matching mag, but with the mismatch on the toggle pin and trigger... lol Not taking mine apart, you would never know it was mismatched. |

Looking at the luger pictures again, it almost looks polished and reblued. Orignal finish will show a halo effect around the proofs and numbers. Silver parts should have a gold hue they call straw or something like that. If in 9mm, i would jump on it for 1k or less. $800 i wouldn't think too long about it. Assuming the barrel is good, and it functions. Wolff offers replacement springs, just note the recoil spring has a small end and a big end. The rest is straightforward. Fun guns, get some mecgar mag and enjoy. |
