If the American flag flies there, the right to keep and bear arms applies there. That’s why Gun Owners of America, through its Hispanic coalition Fuerza 2A, is fighting to restore gun rights in Puerto Rico. Currently, Americans visiting Puerto Rico cannot legally carry — even if they are licensed in their home state — forcing them to surrender their right to self-defense the moment they arrive. Right now, two pro-Second Amendment bills are moving through the Puerto Rico legislature — PC 1138 and PC 950 — and lawmakers need to hear from gun owners immediately. PC 1138 would expand carry rights by recognizing out-of-state carry permits, allowing individuals to carry more than one handgun, requiring the prompt return of firearms after criminal investigations, and eliminating redundant inspections already handled by the federal government. PC 950 would strengthen protections for domestic violence victims by granting an immediate, free five-year carry permit instead of forcing victims to rely on a short 90-day permit. These bills are an important step toward restoring Second Amendment protections in Puerto Rico — but they will only pass if lawmakers hear from gun owners now.
