Can't seem to find many longterm reviews on the Sub2000 5.7 and have been wondering if I received a lemon or if the design is still being worked out.

For back story, I purchased one of these earlier in the year after they hit the shelves. I sent it back to Keltec 3 times as within a dozen rounds, the gun began a single shot with FTE leaving the case behind and the next round trying to chamber. Inspecting the gun it was pretty obvious, the bolt face was way oversized and the extractor pretty much made no contact. Just cycling the action the bolt would leave a cartridge behind in the chamber. I sent it in to Keltec, described the issue, and pointed out the bolt design was defective. Came back to me with comment that it test fired fine and they polished the bolt. Back in my possession, examining the gun and firing yielded the same results. I could freely move a round straight in and out of the bolt face.

Sent in second time, again sent feedback on what the issue was, in which I received it back with new bolt. I could tell the bolt was different in addition to it being marked replaced on the receipt, visibly from the QC marks. Same thing, little to no extractor contact, case moves in and out of the bolt face.

Sent in a third time, again describing the issue and included videos. At this point Keltec had had it cumulatively for months, more time than me. Eventually they called me saying their gunsmith couldn't find an issue in which my reaction was a bit I asked for a supervisor to call me back in which the next couple days didn't happen, but when I called them I was told the supervisor finally found a problem.

Received the gun back with a new bolt again, however this time the bolt face/extractor were finally appropriately sized like any semi auto, it would manually cycle normally, and you could not fit a case in and out of the bolt face. Was a night and day difference on the bolt design. It went from single shot to completely reliable for 2 or 3 mags after being cleaned. However, then I'd get 1-2 FTE's using FN mags and AE or FN Blue Tip factory ammo, once it seemed there was some fouling in the chamber.

At this point I've tried playing with the buffer weight, polishing the chamber, and the stroke length (the manual shows one buffer spacer, however mine shipped with 2?). Part of me thinks the chamber needs to be fluted in the design and this is a limitation of straight blowback in a 16", higher pressured 5.7 semi auto.

The gun is one of my favorites for how light and convenient it is, and it has been incredibly flat and accurate to 200yds. I just need to figure out how to make it 100% reliable.

So I am curious to hear if anyone has one and how has it been to include suppressed/unsuppressed and what cans?

This pretty much mimics my Sub 2000 and my PR-57. I have quite the collection of 5.7 guns and these 2 both exhibit MANY failure to extract. I waited 4 months for the Social Media guy at KT to send me a new Bolt/extractor. Same comments I gave him as you did; Bolt Face/extractor interface IS WAY too loose compared to other 5.7 guns. I added the heavy bolt to add some mass to the system and it's just about 1-2oz shy of the P90 Bolt weight. Fired brass looks a lot better. I polished the chamber as well. I'll get it out in a couple weeks and see how long it will run before it chokes..

Be interesting to hear how the S&W 5.7 FPC does.  That's a really tempting option, using the S&W 5.7 pistol mag.

Just got in a PR-57, if it doesn't sell this weekend hope to shoot it next week.

is this a confirmed thing? The S&W mag is the worst out of the bunch of 5.7 mags.

Good to hear I wasn't the only one.

I believed I solved it. If you look at your ejection port inside edge, I assume you'll find dings from the cases hitting it on the way out. This causes inconsistent ejection and a possible malfunction point (explaining the low percentage random malfunctions I was seeing even after sorting out the bolt velocity issue). I flared that edge at a 45 degree and now the casings slide right out. The ejection pattern is super consistent and farther as there is no obstruction.

If the 5.7 FPC rumor ends up legit, that definitely will be a sweet option and higher build quality. The Kel-tec is quite a bit lighter and more compact though if they could fine tune their products more from the get-go. FN mags are also a nice perk.

Saw it mentioned in the SHOT Show thread, someone said the FPC was coming in .22 WMR as well, which makes sense.  The FPC in 9mm is just heavier than the 9mm SUB, I expect the 5.7 will be as well, and more expensive.  Probably more accurate than the SUB w/ a fixed optic rail.  I don't know that the SUB is any more compact, they both fold to 16".

See below. I'm not advising anything, here's just what I did.

I actually looked at my ejection pattern and a couple videos of others' firing online. This nutnfancy video at 5:15 actually captures very well the issue. https://youtu.be/InipZ2GZKPM?si=kR8rHXKHU9S7HXsm

If you slow it down frame by frame you can mostly see it captured. The case extracts and starts to eject rotating 180, however the front of the case hits the inside ejection port lip causing the case to linger around the ejection port, the bolt going forward then hits the casing chucking it out (in this particular instance) but obstructs the bolt movement causing the malfunction.

It's just a 90 degree plastic edge, I flared just the edge in a smooth fashion and now there is no random chance of how the case interacts with the ejection port edge, as the edge is gone and the case ejects as it should - ejector pushes case out 180 and the case hits the deflector as it slides up the flare and out. Same spot every time.
