Does anyone have a recent production H9, or have any experience with them? I know the first batch a couple years ago had several issues, DD supposedly fixed them, but I haven't heard anything on them in over a year. Before anyone tells me not to buy one, I want one because it's weird and unique and I have an original Hudson 9. I am not concerned with whether or not it's worth the money, or if there are better pistols out there. I just want to know if they're running well enough to be an occasional shooter and safe queen. |

I picked one up several months after the “second version” / updates were put out. After a couple trips back to the mothership, mine runs now. It fits my hand great. The trigger is good for a striker. It’s accurate enough that I can’t outshoot it. The mags are nice and cheap. It’s thin and light and hides great as a carry piece. However, the optic plate system is a bit lacking… like two threads of contact is all you’ll get. And, in case you missed it above, mine had to go back as it couldn’t run ANYTHING reliably. In the first 2K rounds, the longest string I got without a malfunction was 5 rounds. I damn near tossed it in the trash can at the range. Now that it’s been repaired, it actually runs reliably with anything from 115gr to 160gr Ball to FMJ. It hasn’t had a failure since they finally fixed mine. I wanted to love it, but it’s tainted for me. If you get a good one, great little gun overall except the optic mount design… if you get a dud, at least they did take care of it. |

End of the day, new barrel and recoil assembly. Also appeared that they did some polish work on the breechface and possibly the extractor. Since I’ve had it back, I’ve put several thousand down range, mainly 124gr FMJ and it hasn’t failed once. If it had run like this from the start, I’d be preaching its merits widely. |

It certainly is intriguing at around $800-900 street price, but a pistol at that price point shouldn't have any issues after the initial break in period. It sounds like at a minimum the original barrel was out of spec. Considering that many companies sell drop-in replacement barrels on their own websites, that isn't really great.

I hope you get a good one, it's a neat design. Trigger is honestly pretty dang good for a carry oriented striker gun. Recoil is nice... sharp but returns FAST. My biggest complaint these days is that the optic cut/plate design could probably have been a bit better. Mine, after several months of range trips and a few cases more of ammo... I trust it enough to carry now. It fills that slot between pocket gun (J frame or tiny 380 size) and full size carry (2011s and M&P for me). Its great for the times I want a slim, smaller gun thats stupidly easy to conceal. If mine had run out of the box, I'd be trying to sell the model to everyone I shoot with. At this point, I let folks shoot it... and I tell them the tale of how it got to where it is. Most folks that shoot it enjoy the experience, but I'm probably not doing much for their sales numbers. |
