Hi, all On May 9th 2026, I sent a model 60 to S&W for what I believe to be a cracked cylinder. I called the company today 7/7/2026 to find out the status. I learned that the revolver went to metallurgy X-ray on 6/15/2026. The company spokesman suggested i call back or about 8/15/2026 for followup. The gun is chambered in .357 mag, I have never once fired a .357. Strictly standard velocity 38 special. Although S&W would have no reason to believe me. WOW! Is 8 to 9 weeks a normal turn around time? anyone experience this issue . Seems like a very long time to decide if a cylinder needs replacing. Thanks for allowing me to complain. mac. |

Unfortunately S&W like many companies is rolling the dice on quality control. Little to none before shipping, and hoping only a small percentage of customers complain. A lot of people are having issues with S&W quality and even “ premium” guns like the Lipsey’s snubs and performance center guns are affected. When you pay upwards of a thousand bucks for a revolver, they better work. For me I won’t buy a lock gun or centerfire revolver that has the frame mounted firing pin. Solid used carry / shooter grade older guns are pretty common and far less expensive than new, and far less likely to exhibit issues than current Production. So yes if guns are shipped to them by the hundreds every week due to poor QC, I can see repairs backed up for a prolonged period of time |

Yep, I had them service a k frame gun for me. The process started in October. I got a letter describing the work needed and an authorization to repair to return or to call and authorize and pay with a CC. I did the latter, spoke to a nice lady, gave a CC. Three months later my gun shows up and I take it to the range and have the same problem. I call them up talk to a tech and he transfers me to the payment office to see if I will have to pay again. It turns out they never did anything and denied that I called them at all. Of course I had a date and time and duration right in my cell phone but the lady basically called me a liar saying that it was impossible or they’d have a record of it. Anyways, send gun back again and two months later I get it back but now I basically am using all the windage available on the rear sight now. My cylinder now at least closes correctly so at least they fixed that. Other than under warranty any work is going to a well regarded independent revolver smith. All I can surmise in the after analysis in the payment fiasco is that they don’t charge the card immediately but wait until it actually is about to get worked on. Anyways in the months they had the gun sitting in the to do pile my CC expired and was replaced. I think now they ran a CC and it was no longer good and just dumped the gun back in the mail whereas they should have called me for the new expiry and code. Arguing with me that I never authorized a repair was absurd. |
