Is there a decent retention holster that’s also reasonably concealable? It’d be nice to have one holster that could go reasonably well under a jacket or unbuttoned shirt but also have a little retention as I just prefer some retention for OWB. Glock 19 COA w/TLR-7 HL-X. |

You're getting into "I want to be a little bit pregnant" territory. There's no free lunch. If you want a OWB holster that is effectively concealed, it needs to be fairly low profile and full retention systems start working against that goal. Consequently, it depends on what your "retention" goals are. If you want something that will ensure the handgun stays in the holster while running, jumping, etc, you can get holsters that can be adjusted for more squeeze on the weapon. However, if you want a full retention holster that makes it harder for an assailant to take you hand gun, that's much less likely. In my opinion and experience, concealed is concealed. IWB holsters keep it secure when running, rolling around, etc. and being well concealed, they are not targets for a would be thief or assailant. Consequently, no need for any retention beyond what a well designed IWB holster offers. If it's not well concealed and you want to prevent someone from coming up and grabbing it, then you need full retention. |
