Buddy bought a python recently. The barrel was bored off centered far enough you could tell obviously by the naked eye. The ejector rod was also bent enough to bind. Went back to Colt and came back like this…please tell me how they function tested this without it blowing up in their face. Cylinder times 1/2 a chamber off the bore. | That sucks, it really does and CS definitely dropped the ball and there is no excuse for that but still, shit happens and that is not the norm. I have 3 of the newer Colts and they are all 100%. Tons of others have posted reviews online and the majority of them are very positive. Looks like you got the short straw. Sorry dude. |

| That is pretty bad. It seems every manufacturer is turning out lemons every so often. I have had a couple from S&W, Sig and Ruger to name a few and a few others over the years. I bought a Python a year or two ago and it has been flawless. |

I can understand the sentiment. Have purchased two NiB SS Colts in the last two years. First, a Python, its been flawless and I am extremely happy with it. Second, a Gov model 1911 with factory NM bbl and tall sights. Actual holes in paper, it shoots like a dream. Issue is, it won't feed, cartridges get hung up trying to slip under the extractor. Took it home and looked at it, yep, improperly fitted extractor, from the factory. A first for me. Spent two hours with a stone, hone, try, hone try ... now it feeds properly. Something that QC should have caught and a bit disconcerting. They went from professionals assembling pistols to a bunch of line workers slapping parts together and sending them out the door with little to no oversight. MLG |

I had a new Python, the exact same model as that one. It had trouble with the action locking up and cylinder latch being sticky unlike it first was. I sent it back to Colt 5 times for one or both of the same 2 issues. Customer service was helpful, friendly, and seemed to want to get it right. The gun was real nice, just not reliable. The repair invoices seemed to follow logical courses of action. I have no idea what was wrong with that gun. I have speculations, but can't substantiate anything. I just tested it dry after I got back the last time and sold it. It was a shame because when the gun worked it was great. I put about 1.5k rounds, about 1.4k were mags, through mine with first problem around 500, and from there around every 200 one or two problems showed up again. I wish I hadn't bought that gun, saved its expense, and spent all that ammo money on 9mm instead. |

When they first came to the LGS, I saw one that wouldn't turn. Another had no finish. They have a couple now and do a QC check, cylinder turns on dry fire and there's land/grooves in the ENTIRE barrel. I'm glad I have an original. |

When the new Pythons came out my LGS had an entire case set aside for them. They always had 15-20 different Colt revolvers for sale. After about a year that case disappeared and so did all the Colts. I asked the owner and he admitted they were getting new guns from Colt that he could not and would not put out for sale. He said of one shipment he got they ended up sending over half back due to either barrel or finish issues. One blued Python had the paper wrap printing “imprinted” into the bluing. He said like the gun was pulled out of the hot blue and then wrapped in the brown paper. You could read the writing on the side of the revolver. It wouldn’t wipe off. I would love to have a Python but I’m too leery of them now.

Not hearing any complaints about Kimbers or Diamondbacks, but Colts, S&W, my own experience w/ Ruger & Charter, while I get no complaints about the Rock Island Philippine guns or the Tarui I sell. I've had a pre-scamdemic Ruger out of the box not lock up on one chamber, and half of the 4 Charter's I've gotten were unsalable out of the box. I've sent one Rock Island back for work out of dozens. |

For context…it’s not just Colt garbage. My buddy has the worst luck. The Python was junk. He bought a Ruger Blackhawk that had to go back…Ruger didn’t even bother trying to fix it and just replaced it. He just bought a S&W 629 Mountain Gun Lipseys special last weekend when I bought my 329PD. Sights on his are maxed out up and to the right and it’s still not zeroed. It was 3 feet off target at 15 yds. Other than the brutal recoil…the 329PD I bought is perfect though. Attached File |

It's sad to say that many of today's firearms are component guns put together by assemblers. Calling them "gunsmiths" is being overly generous. There are guns out there that are made the "old fashioned" way by professionals that probably build a gun from scratch, but those fall into the "custom or semi custom" catagory. Gary |
| My python had to go back to Colt for some cylinder lock up issues. They fixed it and it’s been great. The 3” cobra I bought was terrible. Went back to Colt three times because of broken hammers, there’s thread in here somewhere. Colt replaced it with a new gun that hasn’t broke yet. I haven’t carried it because the first one shook my faith in the guns. Colts customer service has been great though. |

I bought one of the newer Cobras in 2018 shortly after they first came out. It's the Cobra Classic model with the polished cylinder, matte frame, and wood grips which I believe has now been discontinued. It's been great, and I've put it through some pretty extended sessions for a snubnose .38 (~300 rounds). In fact I have yet to buy a Colt firearm that didn't run 100% out of the box-that's 4 rifles and 2 handguns. The 1911 was a little rough, and the rifles came with the customary dings, but I have yet to run into a functional issue with something like lockup, rifling, etc... Every revolver thread these days has complaints about how terrible the QC is at S&W/Colt/Ruger, so I think the lesson is that any modern revolver you buy needs to be inspected before you buy it, not that any particular manufacturer is bad-especially in comparison to the others. I still plan to get a 3" KC, one of the .22LR KCs, a 6" Kodiak, a 6" blued Python, and possibly a 6" Anaconda in .45 LC. |

The only problem I’ve personally seen thus far with the newer Colts was a Python that had a DA sear spring get damaged after 400 rounds. The gun still worked fine in single action, and the overall fit and finish looked pretty good, though the inside could’ve been machined a little better. I ended replacing it with the Davidson’s lifetime guarantee. The Python they replaced it with has been flawless thus far and is smoother overall. The Viper I bought after that has been great too. As for the S&W and Ruger revolvers, it can be a “luck of the draw” affair. Many will work out the box, but many will also have cosmetic goofs that are likely a result of rushed assembly. For some reason the Internet gun community forgives these, but screams from rooftops how awful Colt revolvers are for suffering from similar QC issues. I fear that the average modern American assembly line worker may struggle to master the art of putting together a double action revolver. Hitting a few buttons on a CNC machine and dropping parts into something is pretty easy, but understanding what proper fitment and assembly for a double action revolver entails requires gunsmithing knowledge and experience that likely isn’t fully understood by every person on the assembly line at Colt, S&W, or Ruger. |
