Attached File Attached File Friend picked this up at a gun show. Came with two cylinders numbered to the frame. .45ACP / .45 Colt. 3” barrel with ramp front sight. No military proofs. Serial number 72824 It’s beautiful and clean. I haven’t found anything like it when trying to research it. I suspect it may be a custom build but I don’t know much about these. He has sent off for a Colt letter. Thought I’d post it here to see what you folks might have to say. |

Chopped new service. Interesting build but not very valuable collector wise, may be a great shooter, so blast away. Clearly also refinished probably after the modifications, so there is a good possibility that any military markings if they were present were polished off in the process |

Back in the 60's the military was surplusing off Colt Model 1917's and the US Post Office was selling the ones they had. For a time gun shops had display cases full of them. Since they were plentiful and cheap a lot got modified like the one shown. Numrich/Gun Parts Corp sold barrels and cylinders in other calibers like .357 Mag and .45 Colt. Removal of the US ARMY marks on the butt was very common. 72824 does come back as a 1915 Colt New Service so it may well be a commercial model. |

Very cool OP, especially with two cylinders. I'd love to have it. I have a chopped S&W Model of 1917. I'd guess how that one was born. |
