It looks like I will finally be joining the ranks of pistol red dot shooters with my first dipping of the toe into the water. I should be picking up my CZ P-10C Ported COA in the next few days. I have used red dots for years on rifles, only once did I try a dot on a pistol, not firing, just handling it, (CZ P-10M), and I was going nuts just trying to find the dot. I read here about how to zero it, which is always fun, and I will probably get an inexpensive, (not cheap), Kydex rig for now. So, the question is, what do you guys think of the COA, any specific issues I should be aware of, and any tips to using it. Anyone who carries one, do you find that big box makes it harder to conceal? I have read here focus on the target, not the sights...that will take some ammo to get used to, but I have enough, I think. :) Thank you for your replies. |

Practice bringing the gun up to eye level with the same grip each time or as close as you can get. The dot should magically appear and if it doesn't, determine where it is and if the missing dot repeats itself in one area (like too high), adjust accordingly. It may take a short time to get used to, but with persistence it will happen. |

Because in real life you'll always be able to assume the proper stance, put the hand on the gun consistently and the signal to shooting will be a beep of the shot timer. |

Interestingly enough, I am carrying this when I hear a shot timer go off; Attached File So, that's not a problem. At Dept range, I hear someone yell fire. When I practice on my own, I don't use any signals, beeps, flashing light, horn, screaming babies, women moaning in ecstasy, nada, just my decision to draw and fire, from concealment, usually hand nowhere near the gun. This is an experiment, if you will. |
| I've had mine since it came out. 2 issues it has some kind of step down feature that isn't really advertised and my sweat eats away at the anodization. I think the step down feature is pretty stupid because I live in a sunny area. I'm thinking heavily about picking up the P10 coa myself. |
First range thoughts are - this is going to take some time.  This also has a gritty trigger, not at ALL like any of the P-10 triggers I have tried over the years, and with 5 of them in this house, we know a little bit about P-10 triggers. I hope it breaks in, or I might have to pay a visit to CZ Custom...which is very close. We both had some difficulty even after doing presentation drills at home, which made it easier, but still "chasing the dot" a bit. For instance this is one of Da Boy's targets. He had three like this, where the first shot was almost as dead center as dead center could be...then the others wandered. I sincerely doubt it's the gun.  Pistol functioned perfectly, of course, no issues with the two loads used, one cast bullet practice load and a jacketed bullet SD practice load. Neither him nor I could really tell any recoil reduction with the porting, but our experience may have been colored by the fact that it was well over 100 degrees with higher humidity than us desert rats are really used to. The COA sight is easy to find, bright red dot even in bright sunshine, when done properly with both eyes open target focused it was easy to use...but I am fighting 50 years of "sight alignment" with handguns. This is going to take some time and rounds.

We tried again today, in the heat and humidity. Heat I can take, born and raised desert rat, but 45% humidity and I am done. Attached File The trigger needs work. Or a lot of shooting. I love CZ, love the P-10 series, carrying a P-10S as I type this...that trigger needs work. Oddball thing - the COA seemingly shut off once while he was shooting. It MAY have been turned too low to see in the bright sunlight but when I looked, it seemed like the dot was gone. Restart and all is well. Hopefully that was just a fluke. I might change the battery just in case - this might have been a display gun, so I don't know how old the battery is. We kept everything on an IDPA style silhouette target at 20 yards, (thank you Savior Gear for the target included with the bag!), so it's accurate enough, and we didn't chase the dot near as much.
