The disassembly latch that allows the lockwork to be removed from grip frame of the pistol is stuck/jammed in the closed position. I have had this pistol broken down for cleaning/lubrication many times and never had an issue, but now it's locked up tight. I did some online research, but it is not helpful as it only discusses removing the latch after the action is already removed from the lower. I am a clever fellow, have worked on classic cars, and my own firearms for years, but I'm stumped here. Is there a procedure for fixing this, or am I now stuck with a C96 paperweight? |

Have tried some friendly persuasion with small hammer and a punch, no go, also tried with hammer cocked and hammer down. No good. Interestingly my reprinted Mauser manual says to do it with hammer down, not cocked. |

Got it. Cocking the hammer did the trick, and taking some time away to get my frazzled brain off the subject for a while.   This all started because I purchased a new bolt stop from Luger Man, as I have little faith in the used original I purchased when I first picked this one up. the bolt stop that it came with was cracked and had been that way since Federal Ordinance (I assume) re-did the thing. They blued right over the original bolt stop. I did re-spring it years ago after finding the cracked bolt stop. Now I have a lot more faith in shooting it and not taking a bolt to the eye socket.
