So recently scored a PDP 4.5” and I’m looking to get an OWB holster for it. This will be for the range, but depending on how I like it maybe an around the house/yard work carry. I want a paddle mount for easy on and off. I have a Safariland for a Glock 19 I used to have and the ability to put that on and because of the paddle design it was very secure on my belt, but then easy to take off when I had to. I know Safariland has holsters specific to the PDP but it was also just a very bulky holster in general so I’m looking at getting a custom kydex and attaching a paddle to that instead. Now I already have a Safariland paddle that I can scavenge from that holster, but I’m also wondering if there are any better options? I saw Blade Techs paddle, which has a similar design of a ledge on the holster body that snags onto the belt, but are there any others out there I’ve missed? Most of the other designs I’m seeing have either feet or ledges on the paddle that are intended to grab from the paddle side. That seems much less stable/secure vs the paddle in the pants/ledge on holster body. |
| Last year I got a SL Gravity paddle. I've worn a few paddles in 34 years of a mix of carrying for work and civilian time and the Gravity seems like a truly evolved paddle. The paddle is molded to bring the butt of a full size in toward the body better than any other one I've had. The plastic material gets nice and pliable when it warms up which really adds to comfort factor. It's also one of the most budget friendly SL options. I got one for my Echelon 4.5 with optic and wear it to church and work frequently. The fabric finish on it doesn't abrade a nice suit lining either. |

| I carried Fobus paddle holsters for years. Never an issue. And still have several for different guns. These days I usually have a belt mounted holster depending on the gun. But I do use a Safariland paddle for my 1911 on occasion and have a Priority 1 kydex paddle for my comped SA Prodigy. All are comfortable. |

Back in 2008 I was carrying a single action revolver open carry in Arizona a lot. I invented my own holster. It had the same ability to come on and off the belt without unbuckling, but unlike a paddle rig it clung tightly to the belt more like a pancake rig. I also had the ability to adjust the ride height and tilt angle to whatever I wanted. They connect across the front the same way a motorcycle chinstrap works. By attaching each strap to a different hole I could set the ride height and tilt angle. Pulling it off the belt and back on didn't affect those settings. It's not a difficult rig to build. It's just one fold around the gun, then a thick piece on top of the front face with the holes. I also reinforced the upper edge with kydex. Having worn that thing for years, I wouldn't ever buy a paddle rig. I'd build another like this. The process of getting it on and off the belt is a bit slower but in terms of stability on the belt and setting it exactly like I want? Unmatched. |
