Just picked up this Rost Martin 9mm Savior Package. Only time will tell, but I shoot it better than any handgun I have ever shot and I like it....alot. It takes CZ mags I've been told but they don't work on my Mag Pump at all. if I were not an absolute Glock guy and if this pistol and just about any other compact polymer-framed 9mm on the market were in a blind test, I'd choose the Rost Martin......so far. Only had time for a few magazines so time will tell how it holds up. $439 w/ 4 magazines and Savior Case |

Caniks are good pistols, but Glock has ruled LE for the majority of my life. You can 3-D print Glock mags & frames, and is widely cloned around the world. Only one other firearm uses Canik mags that I'm aware of, & that's the Kel-Tec Multi-Mag SUB2000. You are looking at the individual attributes of a handgun - I'm looking at the entire system including the aftermarket. |

PDP vs Mete Rival - I’m buying the Rival. (And did) I don’t have experience with the PDP but hear they are similar and are half the price. I could have a lot of mags for the Canik if I spent the same amount on similar models. As far as overall platform support goes the only platform in my safe I even consider that to be a thing is AR15’s. If the world is coming to an end and things are bad AR15 stuff should be everywhere at least for a while. I would expect to use a rifle a lot more than a pistol. My answer to parts and mag availability in said scenario is to buy 2 Mete’s instead of 1 Glock. Currently you can buy a Mete for as low as $325. If I buy 1 Mete how many additional mags do I have to buy to equal the price of a Glock 17? If I were a minimalist (2-3 pistols and 2-3 rifles) I could see the appeal to owning a Glock. I could never convince myself that would be enough. I could loose/break mags and pistols for a really long time before I would worry about running out. I’m not counting on scavenging or printing parts in a shtf scenario. |

And you can buy two Glurks for the price of one Glock, the Turkish Glock 19s have a wholesale price under Caniks, but take standard Gen 3 Glock parts. |

McDonald’s sells more hamburgers than any other restaurant in the world. Glockboi’s #1 go to response when questioned. Glock sells the most. OP asked about the BEST poverty pony gun. I am telling you that without a doubt the Canik Mete guns are clearly better than the Glock equivalent. It’s not close. The one with the most aftermarket support (because it needs it) or the one purchased by the most police departments (because they are inexpensive) is Glock. That in no way makes it better. Just go shoot a Mete series gun. Don’t shoot the Mete Rival though. You will want to sell your glocks for sure. I’m just teasing you Clan_Glock. I own more Sig’s than any other brand. I have more than a dozen different brands of pistols. I am not loyal to any one manufacturer. But I will call it like I see it even if it’s a brand I’m not fond of. I have paid way more for lesser guns than my Caniks. Glocks are the Honda Civics of the gun world. They are reliable, consistent and used to be inexpensive. Like a civic they really aren’t best at anything and there isn’t anything wrong with that. Let’s just not pretend it’s not a civic. |

I'm not much for lists, but I will say that shopping around at out of the way pawn shops can pay off bigly. I found both my Beretta PX4 9mm Storms for $300 OTD each. One is a Police confiscated gun that has enormous finish wear on the slide, but is otherwise tip top. The other was damn near NIB, with all the paperwork and three mags. I replaced the locking blocks and recoil springs in both, and am very happy with them. I think the PX4 is an under-appreciated handgun, but that means you can find them cheap cheap if you're willing to beat the bushes a little. I also second the XD series guns for the budget minded shooter. I got one of the 5.25" XDMs for right at $300 with three mags. I don't even have a use for it, but it was cheap, so I got it. |
