I had a G20 that was great. But it just didnt fit my hnads well and i sold it off. I was carrying it while elk hunting and fishing in bear country. I ussually did both spray and the G20. Since i sold it i just went back to my spray and G19. There are other things than Grizzlies such as Mt lions and 2 legged creatures and i feel fine with the g19 for that. But keep thinking about revisiting the 10mm. This fall i killed an elk right at dusk. I was right on the edge of the greater yellowstone ecosystem. So definitely bear and lion country. I was breaking it down alone, in the dark in a river drainage full of willows. Visibility was only about 15 feet in any direction. Hiking back in in the dark to the carcass was a pucker moment every trip. Needless to say a lot of "hay bear" yelled out as i got closer to the carcass. I honestly think any hand gun is pretty sorry against a bear. If it is stronge enough, like a good 44 mag, recoil is rough and follow ups will suck. Also any 44 mag i think i could shoot well will weigh a ton and hold 6 shots. I used to carry a 686 with stout hand loads of 180gr hard cast. It had good energy but the 10mm made almost as much energy, higher capacity, lighter and much easier to shoot. My real question is are there any 10mms that git small hands and what would you recommend? |

You might try a S&W M&P 2.0. They come with 4 different grip “modules”. They make a 4”, a 4.6” and a 5.6” that has compensator slots in the barrel and slide. It is a double stack mag, but might be worth looking at. I have the 5.6” Performance Center 10mm. I have 500+ rounds thru it w/o any FTF or FTE, etc. I’m a 1911 guy, with 2 10mm’s, but I wanted more mag capacity. |

go to your local dealer and put a S&W M&P 2.0 10mm in your hands. With the changeable backstraps you should be able to find one that fits your your hands. I have a S&W M&P 2.0 10mm and have small hands. it fits me fine. it works with stout loads. I took it on a bear hunt last year as a backup with double tap ammo. |

If you end up at 1911 I recommend you watch the buffalo bore owner on YouTube and his opinion of 45 vs 10mm for large animal defense. Short version he thinks 45 is better, and for your hand you'd be fully using the single stack plus could carry the 10 rd mags which is 1 more than 10mm hold. Highly recommend watching him, don't rule out 45 as just as good for this use case |

Before i did the g21 i did a g20 then modified it for 45 super that was loaded for 45 SUPER velocity. It was insane but i had a few feeding issues. I am sure i could have figured it out but i didnt want to screw with it. Basicly i had a aftermarket barreal and a custom comp the slowed down the slide like crazy. With only moderate spring changes ejection distance and angel were pretty normal with the effective comp. I cant remember but it was sumthing like 255gr hard casts at like 1100 or 1200 fps but dont quote me on that. But I do know it was aproching 460 Rowland. It was all in the comp, the comp delayed the slide movement until the pressure levels dropped to some extent. Or at least that was my understanding. But that is all another topic of conversation. If i went regular old 45 i would have to consider finding another old folded slide P220. I trust those guns 100% |

But 45ACP would open up some other interesting options. I think something like the HK45c is suposed to be 1.5 stack instead of a true double stack. Maybe it is a little smaller. |

It has been my opinion that a 45ACP +P is close enough to the 10mm it would work just as good for bear and other big critter defense. I have both and even played around with 45 Super for some time. M&P 45 is rated for +P ammo. Some have used it for 45 Super too. No idea on longevity. |

Might want to check out the FN510. My two SW MP10mm pistols weren’t reliable. Mags dropping under recoil and numerous FTF issues. I sent the second one back to SW after the mags repeatedly dropped/FTF, and they didn’t do anything besides shoot it and write that it works. I had a TRP Operator in 10mm that looked sexy as hell, but wouldn’t reliably feed Buffalo Bore 220gr. I still got my old battle axe g20.4, but I got a couple 44s this past winter I’ll carry as well. |
