I recently acquired a Bauer 25 which is a baby Browning clone. While cleaning the magazine I got the flat follower stuck. With some fiddling I got it out and the spring. When reinstalling the spring I inserted with the higher part of the spring facing forward. I noticed that the magazine now did not work right. The followed operation seemed strange. I took the spring out and reversed it. The higher part of the spring to the rear which seems wrong based on most other magazines but in this case it was the right position. Test firing the Bauer later confirmed the installation. I also read that a rounded follower is better than a flat follower. Suppose to minimize rim lock. This makes no sense to be as the rim is at the rear not front of the magazine. My guess is the rounded follower slides up easier in the magazine. I think the rounded follower will also release pressure on the last round slightly sooner than a flat follower Does anybody know the reason newer Baby Browning's like PSA favor a rounded follower? |

I can’t answer your question but I looked at the Bauer 25 ACP pistol schematic on Numrich Arms. Numrich Arms has the same schematic for the Baby Browning 25 ACP. The schematic shows the higher end of the tapered spring towards the muzzle. Whenever I disassemble 1911 magazines I depress the follower then use a small punch through the witness holes to capture the magazine spring. This permits removal of the follower and magazine spring without damage. Thanks for the response. The Bauer magazine follower is different from the one shown in the schematic. The Bauer follower does not turn down in the front. It is flat. I think the one shown is the newer so called rounded follower. I used your method as I have 1911 mags with the fixed base plate. Somehow the follower rotated and the spring got past it. I did get the follower out and the spring without damage. |
