I have a P85 and was thinking about mounting a red dot on it. A couple places make adapter plates that replace the rear sight, in RMR and doctor pattern. They say they will fit the MK series as well. My concern is the plates have set screws to lock it down in the dovetail. But when I took the rear sight off my P85 it was hollow under the sight for firing pin block. Is the rear sight dovetail tapered. On the P series but straight on the MK series |
| I had one on a Ruger Mk2 and put the irons back on it and put the optic on the picatinny rail of a Mk 4 . It’s flat under the rear sight. I still have mixed feelings about red dots VS Iron sights. I believe I’m faster onto the target with iron sights but the dot is an advantage at distance. |

I picked up a RMR adapter plate for my P85 on Amazon/eBay for about $30 It replaced the rear sight. This plate works with P series and the MK series. On the P series the set screws in the rear dovetail are hole fillers as it is hollow under the rear sight for the firing pin block, least in the P85. The plate was a press in fit which is good because that is all that is holding it in place. Now I have to sight it in |
