While doing some home gunsmithing, I lost a spring from a gun, and no one sells these parts.

It's a takedown lever, and I think it can work without being *precise.* As long as it's stays in place. I also shouldn't need to disassemble the gun to this level again.

I thought I'd find a spring of an appropriate diameter and put it in there, trimming if necessary. I thought there'd be a place to buy a packet of miscellaneous springs or springs by size/weight, and I'm not sure where to look. I'm pretty good at the googling, and I'm not finding it.

Tl;dr is there a place that sells "generic" springs, a variety pack, or springs by dimension?

Before you ask, no - there's no gunsmith within fifty miles of me.

The Spring Store
Spring Works Utah
TAC Rockford
WB Jones
Lee Spring
McMaster-Carr

All of these companies, and many more, have off-the-shelf springs.

McMaster-Carr has spring-stock - essentially long springs you can cut-to-length.

If you're really desperate, you can get a batch of springs manufactured.

It's a Taurus TX22 - the takedown lever.

I'll check them out. Thanks for the suggestions.

Even the gun-parts dealers' websites I've looked at are hard to navigate for what I'm seeking. If the search term is "spring" there are a million results, with no way to filter by diameter, length, etc. I'm just trying to figure out how to narrow the search to a manageable level.

It's like 'recoil spring for a 1911' - 'magazine spring for a Glock 26' and so on.

Thanks for those tips, guys. Work promises to be very slow Friday, so I can peruse these vendors' websites.

Spring-stock is probably what I want.  Sometimes it's just a matter of knowing the right term for what I'm after to narrow it down.

Some of those websites have dimensional parameters that you can fill in to narrow the selection.  Lee Spring has offerings in 17-7ph stainless (I recommend that, if you can find one that is dimensionally similar to your working envelope).

Is this a compression spring or a torsion spring?

It's a compression spring.

Crazy idea...maybe call the manufacturer of the firearm and ask them?   Taurus is pretty nice, and they may just send you a replacement part for free.

🤔

It's just crazy enough to work!

It didn't occur to me, because I've never actually done that. I rarely buy new guns, and I usually only fiddle with the ones that are very simple (Glock, AR, that kinda stuff).

I lost the rear sight blade from a PT99 and Taurus sent me a new one for free.  This was a while back, but I'd bet they do the same for you.

I called CS, and told them I just need the spring and it's not in the catalog. She put me on hold for a while and came back and said I can send them the gun for inspection - that's the best she could do.

Wolff has a spring pack assortment that could work.
