I made it to the range last week for the first time in months and got to shoot my favorite old P-09 at 100 yards from a wrist rest. Pistol has a Burris FF3 red dot on a dovetail mount and the ammo was IMI 115 gr JHP box. Hot day in Texas but light wind. I warmed up with 20 shots on the first target, then shot Target 2 below.  Pretty happy with 7 ten ring hits, but had one off the sheet low right, just due to being out of practice, I think. Here is the link to the barrel borescope video. This is a factory barrel with some pitting, especially at the muzzle end. Thanks, DVCER. This target result was a pleasant surprise. Having not shot any pistol for 8 months, I did not have high expectations. Now that I've had time to think about it, the fact that I had low expectations and no pressure to accomplish anything but get some shots in and go through the whole routine again helped. I didn't set up any video cameras, I didn't bring my "best" Atlanta Arms ammo, I didn't run a patch down the barrel before shooting, nothing. But, in retrospect, I've experienced this before--If I'm relaxed and somewhat "loose", I shoot better than when I'm keyed up, excited, or put pressure on myself like for a demo or video. There is a lesson here, I think. The best shooters have control of the mental side of the sport. Us plinkers have good days and less good days, LOL. But, there is still a reason for the one low right shot and the two shots out of the 10 ring but on the sheet. Those resulted just from lack of practice, in my opinion. When I get to shoot, say, once per week for a few weeks, the fliers disappear. All the shots are on the B-6C target, and 9 or 10 will be in the black. But I don't remember ever getting 7 of 10 in the 10 ring before. 5 of 10, sure, many times, but not 7. That is what was so surprising about this target. But I'll take it, with the flier, LOL. Joe L |

Funny how attitude comes into play Joe. I used to hit any local action gun games, mostly pistol. Local club had a 2 gun with rifle. AR stuff, 15 to 275 yards. I did ok on the pistol part but really just took a basic AR with a dot. Nothing special, just wanted to have a fun shoot. Even used wolf steel case. The guys were poking fun at my poverty ammo. Everyone was struggling on a 12” plate at 275. Dang, my 4” dot pretty would pretty well cover it. My turn, I hit the thing first and second shot. Damned if I didn’t win the rifle match. |

I've had really good results with the IMI ammo except in a 3.5" barrel P-10S. I also shoot Atlanta Arms 115 gr JHP in the CZ's. That is my favorite round for 9mm but availability is limited, so the IMI is my backup. I've shot both at 200 yards, too. Still very good results from both. The sight zero shifts slightly at 100 yards between the two, and I think it is just the powder difference. The recoil impulse seems a little different between the two, so it follows that the zero could change as well. At 200 yards, air density and wind take over, so the hold is going to be different each day regardless of the ammo choice. Joe L |
