This is interesting history of the FBI’s ammo analysis and decision making. TFB interview with the FBI lab’s ammo guy. TLDW: He recommends 135 - 147 gr in 9mm. He wouldn’t say about standard, +P, etc. He said he would need to know the design of the projectile (and he obviously couldn’t endorse a specific brand). He did note that barrel length is important, but he ruled out any 115 gr and said some 124 gr will perform well enough, especially +P. I carry 147 gr HST, FWIW. I have consolidated my pile down to 124 gr. Gold Dots, standard pressure. Used to carry +P but that shit is a little too lively in the micro 9s for new shooters. HST also work in a pinch. As far as the weight... It just works, I've had function issues with 147 grain rounds, and 115 just doesn't seem to have the oomph. |

Anything that functions 100%, and that you can reliably deliver BETWEEN THE SHIRT POCKETS . A hole through a major organ is a fight stopper. I don’t care about shooting through doors and windshields with pistols. If I’m shooting through doors and windshields there is virtually zero chance we are talking about a SELF-DEFENSE scenario. If I need to shoot through doors and windshields, I’m bringing something that can deliver 7.62 at 2500+ |
