I like the looks of the BBs over the 80x but the 80x isn’t cheap and reportedly has a much improved trigger but a sketchy safety detent and a misconception that there is a middle setting. There isn’t a middle safety detent, the gun will fire from there.  I want a model 82, .32 cal flat mag as the double stack and the trigger reach is awkward for my short fingers. Now an 80x in .32 acp would be tempting at the more than double, almost triple the price.Not sure why but lately inserting smiley faces show up not where I put them but up top somewhere. WTH? In reality I am better off with a Walther PP or PPK to fit my hand. |
The only hyphenated names I like are cartridge names......30-06, 30-40, 38-55 etc.

The difference between the Beretta F in 1988 and the FS in 1990 was addressing the issue of the decocker introduced on the F catching in between the fire and decock positions. Oddly enough when Beretta introduced the 80X it had the same issue as the F. To be fair I’ve handled several different 80X pistols and the problem varies from pistol to pistol with some having the issue and others not. |

Got wood grips from Beretta for my 80 series pistols, eBay is another place, also put Pachmayers on the 84F. Just pulled the trigger an rolled the dice on these 84 BB's from PSA. We'll see how good or bad they are, hoping not the bottom of the barrel grade, all other ones I purchased from other vendors (some were the same importer PW) were all 95%+ in finish. |

I picked up the newer Tisas B380; the wooden gripped one that takes Beretta sights. It is MUCH better than the first gen Tisas put out. Better fit and finish, grips are lovely; and it is much more comfortable in the hand. It looks like the FS version, with hooked triggerguard, but has the BB style safety. The 84BB slide/recoil assy won't fit, though. |

I picked mine up today. Looks better than I expected. Hopefully will shoot as good as it looks. edit: Does anyone have an idea of how old these pistols are? p.s. Does anyone know what's the deal with the different SN on the slides? Mine has "CHE00XXXX" and has a "PM" stamped over part of it. Meanwhile the frame has a different SN: starting with "Y". I first thought that the slide was a replacement, kinda like CMP 1911's with mismatched parts. But looking at the pictures in PSA's ad, they all seem to have the "CHEE00xxxx" on the slide and a different SN on the frame. Any info? |

BB versions were made 1982-1988 I read that a lot of the police issued pistols were never date proofed. Mine is definitely missing a date code stamp. I think the CHE serial is added either by the importer or when they were taken into Beretta after retirement. It's definitely a newer etching. Ordered a second one today  I really like it. |

I doubt the importer did it since they seem to make a point of hiding import marks (that are required by US law). It's possible the guns left police service and entered the Italian civilian market, receiving some civilian markings like the "CHEE00..." as some civilian requirement or proof mark it was not stolen from the gov't. Maybe some specific Italian police unit or Gov't organization added them for some reason. Mine has a "PM" stamped right over part of the "CHEE00xxx" on the slide. One of my favorite aspects of foreign guns are all the stamps and markings. Reminds me of my CMP 1911. I liked mine enough to order a second one also. Will probably be in much worse shape than the first (per my history and luck) but a well used pistol has a certain charm. edit: I looked at all the various pictures in the PSA reviews of the guns and they ALL have the identical "CHEE009824" (including my gun also) so it IS NOT A Serial Number but a model number or something similar. edit 2: The "GF" on the frame refers to the Italian 'Guardia Finance' or their version of the IRS or something similar. |

I read somewhere that these actually went back to Beretta for processing before being exported. I'd wager that mark has something to do with that. Note the IT24 that's part of that etching, Italy 24? I finally got a chance to shoot the pair if 84BB's that I ended up with... Flawless and very accurate. I tried a variety of ammo: Blazer aluminum 95gr FMJ. S&B 92gr FMJ, Sergeant Major Range Safe steel cased 95FMJ (Tula with copper jacketed bullet) and a mixed bunch of junk ammo that I had collected. The only JHP I shot was Fiocchi using 90gr XTP. Everything was flawless. Accuracy impressed me and better than I expected. The gigantic fat grip made it a joy to shoot, unlike most other 380's I have shot (PPK/S being the most painful) but after 150 rounds, not a drop of blood and not even a scratch on my hands. I dont know how many rounds these things have through them in the 40+ years since they were made, probably thousands, but they still shoot great. |
