I’ve always wanted a fn 5.7 pistol but not sure if it’s worth buying expensive mags and a buying a whole new caliber most my handguns are 9mm But at the same time even if I don’t stock up it would be a fun range to to maybe try every once in a while and just have fun. Has anyone bought a fn 5.7 pistol and regretted it for any reason? |

I've contemplated it in the past, but never pulled the trigger. There are other, less costly options available from Ruger and PSA, among others. Honestly, what would drive me to get one is if I found a smoking deal on ammo. If I was able to acquire 500 or 1000 rounds at a great price, I'd then go get a pistol. I have a Ruger 5.7. Its fun to shoot, especially with a can. I run a DA Mask on mine. It sounds great. If I had to "start over" with my gun collection, it would be limited to 22LR, 9mm, 45ACP, 5.56, 300 BLK, 308, 300 Win Mag, and then shotguns of course. That's it. |

Financially it’s not worth it, and the only possible incentives (IMHO) would be to accompany a P90, or because you want AP capability in a modern handgun (but then you cannot get the AP rounds unless you make them yourself) or if you’re LE and your CLEO will sign a purchase authorization letter. That being said, I bought one anyway.  I had considered the PSA Rock for a while, but last year some online vendor put a slight Black Friday discount on the FN MkIII so I bought a FDE one. I already had a bunch of FN mags from years ago when Biden said stupid stuff on TV about banning mags and I’d bought a shitload of various mags that same evening before the prices increased everywhere. lol The older mags can easily be modified for the MkIII (by relieving a radius on each side of the polymer floor plate). |

I have an old school USG, a SBR’ed PS90, and a PSA Rock. I love shooting them all. They’re accurate and have almost not recoil. They suppress decently well also, even just using an overbuilt .22 can. The biggest problems I can say for the 5.7 right now… 1 - The FN Mk3 MRD is way overpriced for what it is. Not having a factory threaded barrel and deliberately changing the mag baseplates so the existing Mk2 mags didn’t fit was a dick move. The only improvements are the optic mount and slightly better ergos. Not worth the $1k+ they want. If they would include a threaded barrel, I would probably change my opinion. 2 - With PSA shutting down their ammo production, prices on ammo are climbing again. It’s another dick move by other industry players. Everyone’s got to make a profit, but this just feels like screwing the consumer because they can. I used to think I had a deeper 5.7 stash than I do, and I can’t easily replace any of it right now because of this. I have a decent amount of the FN 198 round but I haaaaate shooting that stuff up. I really like my PSA Rock and want to get another one. I think they are the best value proposition for 5.7 guns when you look at the package deals PSA is putting together, either with the ten mags bundle or the red dot option. I’m not a fan of the S&W option, but if you wanted to get your feet wet and didn’t mind the ammo prices, the PSA, the Ruger, and the Tisas options are all excellent ways to experiment with the 5.7 round. ETA - speak of the devil! This is a phenomenal deal for Rock 5.7 with a threaded barrel and green dot optic for $400. It’s basically a free optic, even if you don’t care for it. Use it until it breaks, then replace it! I have the S&W M&P 5.7 and love it. The S&W is as slim as my G48, just a little longer in the barrel. It conceals and carries well with a IWB holster. 1 mag in the gun and one spare equals 44 rounds of a vicious .22 round that defeats 2A armor (or thick winter coats). It is also very flat shooting. |

| 5.7 is an interesting and a good intermediate cartridge depending on what you are looking for. For pistols I'm only familiar with the FN & Ruger. Between those two the Ruger wins hands down. The Ruger places between the early FN and the newer FN in features. It shoots just as well, and magazines and the price of the gun are a fraction of the FN. I do also have a PS90 with an FRT and SBR'd and it is a very compact shooter & lightweight shooter. I am a big buyer of 5.7 when PSA have sales. I mostly purchase the FN stuff but sometimes the Fiocchi. All of the US FN stuff is loaded by Fiocchi but the FN stuff seems to be loaded sllightly hotter. The Federal stuff is quite tame, surprising for Federal. Gold Dot 5.7 seems to be the common standard for self defense with the Vanguard Black Dragon as the absolute Premium go to round. I have been saving my brass and plan to reload when I get some things settled, rebated case necks can be a problem so you need to be careful but people are reloading on a progressive and just doing a good visual inspection when boxed up. Lastly, a lot of people complain about the price fo the ammo, remembering that pretty much all 5.7 comes in 50rnd boxes like most handgun rounds, they are really not that bad when purchased on the many sales in quantity. |

IMO if you have no personal attachment to the "FN brand" The PSA 57 Rock is superior to the FiveseveN. Factory cut for optics, factory heavy threaded barrel. +4 capacity over the FN. More slimline grip. Actual ability to get parts or customer service from the company. I'm even liking the TISAS more than the FN. Granted the FSN has the longer service history, and the others have a way to go to build that history. |

@PursuitSS Buffman's already here. OP, I've had two customers buy the Kel-Tec PR-57 that are now using it for their EDC. One bought a SUB2000 in 5.7 to pair with it yesterday as a truck gun. I'm considering replacing my Gen 5 26 with a PR-57, I just need to see how far out I can make accurate hits w/ the Kel-Tec. |

I got the Tisas 5.7 and the cartridge imho is better suited to a PDW type weapon vs a pistol. There’s a lot going on out if a short barrel. Maybe with a suppressor it’ll be more subdued? Having shot mostly 9mm & 45acp, the 5.7 was really different. Waiting patiently for the PSA MP7 ish PDW. |
