New 22/45 - first rimfire pistol. Will be used for training, plinking, small game hunting and pest control. Have run about 200rds through it and love it so far. Only issues have been slightly gritty mags, though they have functioned perfectly with everything except Aguila, which seems to be very common due to the waxy coating. Ammo tried so far: Mini mag HP Federal blue box CCI SV Aguila SV Have a few more kinds i haven't tested yet. Already have or on the way: Pistol - 4.4: threaded bull barrel, top rail, SKU 40190 6x magazines McFadden loader Suppressor Light mount MRDS Suppressor compatible holster A nice pile of .22lr in different flavors. Considering reliability and trigger upgrades from Volquartsen and Tandemkross. Leaning towards just getting the TK competition kit. Opinions? Which WML will work well with this? Considering a TLR-1 or EPL, thoufg i could absolutely be convinced to go smaller. I do plan to disassemble all mags and polish parts for smoothness, some are a bit gritty. Anything I'm missing or should know about? Thank you in advance! |

I have that one. Like it. All I have is a checkmate hd can and a 507x. Trigger could be better, that is fixable but I’ll shoot it more first. Sub ammo is much quieter, all the bulk/cheap stuff goes supersonic in mine. I don’t have a holster, but I did get a pouch for the can. Mine rides in a hill people chest pack. Mostly it is for grouse when elk hunting, stays clean in there, and the tasty grouse don’t care if it takes a minute. Lemme know how you like the McFadden loader, I did just get one and haven’t played around enough with it. But I also haven’t had the zip, loaded results I see in vids. Probably just need more practice with that. Bass pro had factory mags for 25 ea so I stocked up. Be aware if you have other MK .22 pistols, these are different mags. Not interchangeable, so now I have 3 different Ruger mag piles . |

Could've just gotten the tactical with factory rail but the price is higher and availability lower. |

I'm a fan of TandemKross parts. I have the ultimate trigger kit, extended thumb rest safety, and the halo ring on the charging handle. Muzzle brakes seem ridiculous on a .22, but I have zero rise when shooting mine in matches. My bolt and extractor are still stock, but I would swap them out if I ever start having issues. I also removed the stock top rail and went with the TK low profile optic mount. I've noticed I pick up my dot way faster now that it sits lower on the gun. VQ might even be the better option for parts, although a little more expensive. I stopped using traditional gun oils when cleaning/lubing because I had problems with cycling during a winter match about two years ago. An old timer at my club recommended using Hornady One-Shot cleaner/dry lube (NOT the case lube lol) and it's the only thing I use in .22 guns anymore. I'll occasionally spray a little Otis dry lube in my mags after cleaning them as well.  |

At a minimum, get the volquartsen extractor and firing pin. Occasionally you can find Ruger bolts with the upgrades installed for $45 on their ebay store. On top of that, get a Tandemkross blast shield magazine safety delete. Honestly, while it's apart, I'd just do the whole TK trigger group IMO. |

Very minimum would be an upgraded extractor. My minimum is that plus a VQ Accurizing Kit to improve the trigger. Best price I've found on the accurizing kit is at Dvor. I purchased the VQ accurizing kit w/o trigger, then used a Tandemkross trigger. I also wasn't a fan of the 22/45 safety, so I added a TK Cornetstone Safety. Lastly, I have a Lobos FF3 optic mount and Lok Grips Bogies.

I have a Mark 3 22/45. I never found the stock trigger to be bad and/or had issues with ejections. The only item I replaced is the hammer bushing. This lets you fire without a magazine inserted and also allows mags to drop free. https://tandemkross.com/steel_hammer_bushing |

It's been perfect except with the waxy Aguila ammo. A bunch more mags showed up, going to pull them all apart and clean up/polish the lips, flashing, and button rails. Well, the Lobos mount came in and it was the wrong one - must have hit the wrong button on the site. Sent it in on a return and got on notifications for when it comes back. Will reorder the correct one as soon as it does. For now... VQ competition kit (full trigger kit minus trigger, extractor, firing pin) Tandemkross trigger Performance Services light mount Streamlight Chopped factory rail to mount Leupold DPP When the Lobos mount is back in stock I'll snag one but this will work for now. Attached File Attached File 10 rounds of CCI SV at 25 yards. Im pleased with the accuracy. Have already cleaned up 4 critters in 3 weeks with it prior to the red dot and light. Should be a perfect setup for cleaning up the farmyard. |

Yep, DPP that was actually a gift from another Arfcommer. The Lobos mount came back in stock and I ordered it as soon as the notification came through. It should arrive tomorrow. Forgot to add - I pulled all the mags apart, touched up the stamped edges, threw the bodies and spring guides in the stainless media tumbler, and took all flashing off the followers. Then chucked the spring guides and follower buttons in a drill and polished with mothers The difference in magazine smoothness is huge. |

Also have somewhere in the neighborhood of 6-8k rounds of Aguila SV in red/white/blue, red/white/black,and yellow/white/blue flavors. A good chunk of that is from when it was stupid cheap and a bunch of people here ordered a stupid amount. I'm pretty sure they were clearing out the R/W/B in cases of 2k rounds. My understanding is that Aguila claimed it was just a packaging change but some is when they still called it Eley prime and some is Aguila Prime. I determined that it doesn't like the waxy coating. It's fine - I've got other guns to burn it up in - but it would be easier and more fun to burn up in this one... Don't really feel like screwing with cleaning mags every time. I've got other flavors of ammo so it's not a problem, just annoying. |

The way I've been doing it is pretty easy (still not ideal but tolerable for me) I get to the range with mags empty. Holding mags upside down, each one gets a quick spray with one shot in the base of the mag so the one shot will drip downward to the feed lips/follower. Do all 6 mags in a few minutes. Then I just load the mags with the Clip Loader, and it they work perfectly troughout the rest of the range day (~2hrs, 250rd divided by 6 mags). |

I installed a halo Charging Ring and an Ultimate Trigger Kit both from Tandenkross. Also, a Checkmate suppressor from Griffin and a Primary Arms Classic Series 24mm Mini Reflex Sight Gen 2 3 MOA Red Dot. The parts, not including the suppressor were $350 and I’m super happy with how the pistol turned out. The trigger was a little confusing to install having zero experience working on the trigger of this pistol but I eventually figured it out. The suppressor was purchased from Griffin during a Black Friday sale, don’t recall what I paid. I don’t regret the mods to this pistol but I also can say that right out of the box it wasn’t too bad of a gun. If I’d had to keep it stock I would still have enjoyed owning it especially since Ruger redesigned it for easier assembly compared to the original design. At some point I might replace the grip panels just to add a splash of color but it would be purely cosmetic as the current grips work. Attached File |
