| I have not shot it yet but I picked up an Alpha Foxtrot 10MM Romulus this past week and I have the bug to get one in 9MM now. I am kinda drawn to the SA Platypus but mainly B/C I have plenty of 320 mags. Staying at the $2K mark what do I need to look at/check out? |

| There's also the Sig P211. I'm not sure if they take stock 320 mags but I think at least the tubes and guts work. I saw someone talking about switching basepads but didn't look into it. |

Tisas then jump to the $3k pistols because there just isn't enough difference for the $$ spent to me. Kimber 2k11 or Staccato etc. Or buy a nicer one used and save $$. |

A guy that shoots at my club got a p211-GTO (think it's the Equinox model) and it shoots very well. It does take 320 mags. He also has a comped Prodigy, but shoots the Sig pretty much exclusively now. I've shot both the Prodigy and the Sig - I think think the Sig is the winner. I'm still mulling over a Platypus because I have so many Glock mags. Although, I'll probably end up with a DWX some day because I like the CZ grip angle more. Or, I'll just take the cheapest (and probably smarter for me) route and get a Shadow since I also have a bunch of CZ75 mags

Pretty much this. Buls are also pretty nice in the $2k range, but they use proprietary mags. Tisas/MAC is really the buy, IMO, for sub $2k. No MIM, so they make a great starting point for working on. The Kimber Warrior DS is probably a little nicer out of the box, but it's aluminum frame and lots of MIM. (Not that MIM is a deal breaker, but I prefer to limit it.) Aluminum frame could be a pro for you, depending on your use case. The Tisas will probably need springs and some polishing out of the box. It's very minor work, but could be annoying to some people. I could never recommend a recent Sig based on QC and company morals. The 211 also has a fucky grip and points like a 320. Some people might likethat, though. I've never owned a 211 or a 320, but Sig fooled me twice on other models and there's no way they are getting me a 3rd time. Platypus shoots really, really nice, but is made from non-anodized aluminum, so it's probably not going to be a gun you can use very often. Ceracote is it's only wear barrier. I did not care for the 2 or 3 DWXs that I've shot, but I was shooting them next to higher end 2011s, so that's probably a factor. Other people really like them. I just felt like they were kind of meh. |
| Don’t think I have heard a single negative thing about the Platypus. Takes Glock mags, big plus. I have an Sig P211 and it is nothing short of phenomenal for me. You have lots of choice, do your homework and see if you can try any out before you buy. My only caution is the Turkish guns, I had a really bad experience, they are cheap for a reason. Also Kimber 2K11’s can be had south of $2000. I have one and it shoots great, keep it in mind. Big positive for the Kimber and P211….External extractors!!! |
