Yep, real 1911's have 5" Barrel, internal extractors, and STILL jam

Funny ! I fire the 1911 my grandfather left me upon his death (with exact instructions it was to be fired and not just sit) and he carried it in WW2. It has never jammed or failed in any way in over 15,000 rounds I have put through it. I know he put probably 5 times that through it before I got it. It has had all springs replaced at regular intervals and an extractor or two, but, other than that it is all original.

My old man said it best a long time ago, "God and John Browning got together and designed the perfect hand gun, that is represented in the 1911. Any man who changes this design should drug out in the street and shot with said 1911, so saith the Lord."

I think all you shit talkers would do well to quit buying Kimber's and buy a real mans 1911 designed the way God and John Browning intended it to be.

I have owned and still own 3 1911's, none of them have external extractors and all from reputable manufacturers (Springfield & Colt). At one point in time (some more then others), they have jammed.

READ BEFORE POSTING IN THIS FORUM. - located at the top of the Forum.

I cannot say the same thing about my {removed} - SGB. You can argue whether the platform itself is better as far as ergonomics go (and I wouldn't argue, the 1911 is a better handling firearm with the best grip angle on the market).

However it's not the most reliable pistol, which takes it out of the running as being the greatest combat handgun of all time. I know the older 1911's were nearly as tight as the new models, which probably does lend to their reliability.

I'm sure I'll draw the ire of the ghost of John Browning. But when I can find a page demonstrating 7-8 COMMMON malfunctions with the 1911 platform, that's not encouraging. You will not website demonstrating that with more modern handguns.

That being said, rock on 1911

Which is why Delta, SF, Recon, HRT, and Lord knows what other HSLD-types use 1911s. They don't want anything TOO reliable; you know, to help keep things fair.

Some of you have such an emotional attachment to a particular firearm, that you cannot see the pros and cons of each platform. There are tradeoffs with every handgun, however some trade offs are personally not worth the risk.

I like 1911's as shooters, artwork, and collection pieces, as there is no better looking handgun and I'm sure properly tuned/tested/custom 1911's are reliable, but that alone proves the point i was trying to make. It's either hit or miss if a 1911 is going to be 100% reliable.

Personally, I don't have that sort of patience to tinker with firearms when I can go buy something that'll go boom every time. Whether it be capacity, simplicity, or overally platform reliability, I think several modern handguns have surpassed the 1911.

John would have invented Polymer if he had a use for it!  Hahaha - I'm just kidding.  This is all in good fun.  I'm sorry it it offended you, it's just for laughs.

Though I don't own a Glock, I have shot the piss out of them and don't hold anything against them.  I compare the fued between 1911's and Glock like Ford against Chevy.  I have owned both though I drive primarily Mustangs.  I get heat about it all the time, and I poke my fun back.  It's all in good fun.

Big Bore,

Cool!  Here is another one.

ETA:  As I said before, I'm just poking some fun.  I guess I'm exploiting the Glock/1911 fued and dousing the fire with gasoline, but it is just in good fun.  I don't hold any issues with Glock or any polymer guns.  I owned an XD of which I did a lot of custom work on it.  I sold it (was one of only 2 guns that I have ever sold) only to finance the start of Miller Custom.  I've been thinking of picking up another XD or Glock in 9mm as kind of a beater gun.  Most of you know already that I'm a 1911 smith, and that is what makes up a good part of my firarme collection.  I'm not a one gun brand freak with blinders on to the rest of the firearm world.  I'm just poking fun and can roll with the punches as well.

Never said the 1911 was an end all, be all fire arm. As for my screen name, this why they call me Glock-Boy and it has almost doubled since this picture:
