I was curious about aftermarket magazines and got some Checkmates and Mec-Gar 126mm to try out. (I'm limited to 126mm mag size to fit the optic-mounted pistol inside the test box.) From left to right - Mec-Gar (18 rds), Checkmates (17 rds), and Springfield OEM (17 rds). Most expensive are the Checkmates at $49/each, the Mec-Gar and Springfield are $39 and $30 each. Mec-Gar mag was made in Italy. The other 2 presumably made in the USA. Mag spring on the Springfiled OEM felt weaker than the Checkmates and Mec-Gar, all are 10 coils. I disassembled them all to check the follower designs and they were almost identical; However the only follower that did not stick inside the tube was the bright green Mec-Gar. Don't know how Mec-Gar was able to fit 18 rds loadable, must be some sort of black magic  . Attached File |
