Quoted: Where did you get it from and how much if you don't mind saying? Direct from Sig full price. $806, price doesn’t bother me when it comes to what you get. Closed emitter No cost to machine slide No cost for BUISs Lowest profile on the market. Yes it’s a closed emitter as well. Not sure on the run time yet. But so far I’m having no issues. Cp |
| The one issue with these is they will only work a military spec slide as such it is a no go for the commercial spec M17 and M18. Hopefully they come out with one for the commercial cut as it is a very common pattern that includes the X5 Legion and a variety of other slides. |

I want to buy a bundle or something so it's a guaranteed fit. |

Quoted: Oh. Well that's dumb. From what I understand, there is a commercial/civi version on the way. But there's no way to tell exactly which slide/cut they will be made for. These are listed on Sig's website now but showing out of stock. I was hoping for a price around $600. But if you get what you pay for then ![]() I only need two ![]() @eaglecp Are the rear sights removable on these? To me its looking like a separate piece from the main body. Eta I wonder how soon machine shops will be offering M17 optic cuts |
|
So where are these being made? And is this a DPP footprint but not for commercial optic mounts made for the DPP? Going to assume that since the price is steep, not made in China and that would be great but just need it to be confirmed. Tagged for more info as it comes in. |

Eta I wonder how soon machine shops will be offering M17 optic cuts The rear sight is re-used from sight plate that comes on the pistol from the factory. Yes, this optic was specifically built for the Military version ONLY. This includes Commemoratives and POWs being offered. This is a purpose built optic plain and simple for this gun. That being said. Sig will be coming out with a civie version, so I am told by the Sig rep at the USASOC Sniper match at Bragg in March. I am sure it will be for commercial M17/18s and X5 series This makes sense because of the design of the slide. You can still run the DPP footprint sights on these guns but there is a hole over the firing pin channel unless you install the DPP back up iron sight over it. Cp |

| Our Sig rep brought one out with him bringing some other equipment to test. I was extremely pleased with it seemed to be good unit with great clarity and brightness. It’s also my understanding this is the first in a family of optics that will eventually include not only commercial 320s but also a variant for the Micros like the p365. Be interested in how well it’s received. |

So the new standard is standard height cowitness? Or closed emitter? That "should" be the standard going forward but Holosun did that first.(SCS, 509t,) Maybe acro? I would prefer a acro style mounting. No slide screws. Not sure how I feel about the side mounted 2032 battery. But I like it overall. |

They went on sale tonight on the SIG website for $719.99, looks like their Black Friday discounts dropped a little early. Only one left at the moment, unfortunately. They had five about an hour ago, and they went quickly. I grabbed one with the pistol and ammo rebate coupon I got this past summer, really looking forward to finally trying it out. ROMEO-M17 EDIT: Two observations about the SIG store: They offered free shipping (possibly due to the rebate coupon, because it says "PISTOL PROMO" next to the shipping line on my order), and they also took the rebate coupon off the original sale price, before calculating sales tax, which saved me a little. I appreciate both of those factors in saving me a little more on this order. |

Pretty excited about my early gift to myself. It got hung up with FedEx for about a week but finally arrived. Really simple to install, just followed the excellent instructions that came with it. SIG is embracing 50 Shades of FDE (Coyote). I need to save up for an X300U to go with it, but I'm looking forward to trying it out sometime soon. Attached File Attached File |
| Just thinking out loud here: I assume a competent gunsmith could drill / cut a commercial P320 slide for the single mounting screw that the military slides use. The ROMEO-M17 includes the mounting screw. Then all you would need would be the military rear sight. Unfortunately, SIG doesn’t sell the military iron sight separately, but maybe they will in the future, now that they are selling it with the M17X / M18X. It would be nice to be able to modify the commercial pistols to mount the ROMEO-M17. I have a Coyote XCompact slide that I’d love put this optic on too. |

I finally had a chance to try out this new optic today. I have to first caveat this by saying that I have very little experience with pistol-mounted optics - only a few hundred rounds through a Glock with an RMR, a friend's ROMEO1, and a family member's Walther PDP with a Holosun. But my first impression of the ROMEO-M17 is that it's a major improvement over the other optics I've tried. The large window, low mounting height, and ability to retain the standard height sights are all excellent features. I found it much easier to acquire the dot, being still new to this, than with higher-mounted optics since it wasn't much different than presenting the pistol with irons. I definitely need a lot more time with it though. I put 150 rounds of Winchester M1152 and 50 rounds of M1153 through the pistol today. One issue I ran into, which I think was mostly my fault for over-lubricating the pistol in a rush to get ready for the range, was that the front window is so close to the breach that it immediately got covered with grime. The first shot I took looked like I drove through a big mud puddle on a dirt road and coated my windshield. I think this was also an issue of dirty ammo - I didn't really realize how dirty the M1152 can be. As you can see in the post-range photo below, it kicks out of bunch of little yellow particles that covered the front window with the first shot I took. The M1153 seemed cleaner, but I'll have to try some other ammo to start my next session to see if it makes a difference. The dot was pretty spot on for elevation, but the windage was a bit off (I bench rested to confirm). I ended up adjusting it right about a half a turn, and that put it on target. I plan to spend more time with this pistol to get really comfortable with the optic. If I can afford it eventually, I'll get a second one for my M18 and ideally turn that into my carry pistol. Quoted: Proven Outfitters says they have the sight parts. I just placed an order with Proven Arms for two of the cover plates ($15 ea) and rear sights ($17 ea). The rear sight includes the single mounting bolt. I was shocked (in a good way) how affordable the rear sight is. I don’t know of any rear night sight that’s sold by itself for less than $50+. I could have just ordered the rear sight by itself, but I figured I’d get the plates since I don’t know how long it will be until I can afford another optic. I prefer the smaller profile (in length) of the military iron sights. They’re not sure how long it will take to get the parts, as they have to order them through SIG’s military parts department instead of their usual commercial sales, apparently. Anyone have a recommendation for an excellent gunsmith that could drill the rear mounting hole in a commercial slide? I’ll probably ask John the AR expert from Retro Arms, but I’m not sure if he does custom work like this. |

Sorry for not responding here, but I think you got your answer in the other thread. Glad you were able to find one of these optics. I missed that Aaron Cowan posted a review a few months ago. TLDW: It’s one of the best pistol optics he’s used, but the proprietary mounting system and price will kill the appeal for most people. What I found really interesting is that he states in the beginning of the video, “there are people like Icarus Precision working on being able to mill guns to accept this optic. They’ve already got some prototypes they’re testing and eventually they’re going to be offering that as a service.” It will be interesting to see what they come up with. ![]() Sig Romeo M-17 Optic EDIT: I contacted Icarus Precision in April, and they replied that they don’t have the machine time to offer services like that right now, so I guess Aaron was mistaken. |

Quoted: Purchased about two weeks ago, have about 1000 rounds down with her and I believe this sight will set a new standard for companies moving forward. - The sight is mounted so low that the presentation feels the same to me, as running irons. - There is no need for ridiculously high BUISs because the sight sits so low in the slide it allows the use of the factory front sight. - Body of sight is narrow and glass size is a tad larger than the ACRO-P2. The dot or circle dot or "Donut of death" reticles present themselves as naturally as irons. I will reserve this place for follow on reports, . I have a second on on the way for my M17, but mounted my first one on my M18 because I am currently shooting it more for various purposes and training. That will change. love the M17. I will be happy to answer questions but I am TDY a lot lately so I'll get back to you as soon as possible. https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img924/5636/ZUyHH0.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/img923/6316/9jRkjy.jpg Cp ![]() |

A recent TFB video on YT mentioned that at least two shops are offering the Romeo-M17 optic cut modification for commercial M17/M18 slides. I only found one so far: Dual Hammer Industries - Sig P320 M17/M18 Romeo M17 Optic Cut - Presumably they can do it for any P320 slide with the original X-Series optic plate with the integral rear sight (I emailed Dual Hammer just now to confirm). I'm not terribly excited about the price for what really just amounts to drilling the hole for the single rear mounting bolt. You still have to supply your own rear iron sight (Proven Arms sells them). They mount the optic for you, but I'm perfectly capable of doing that myself. Refinishing is extra (but I'd be fine with not having the inside of the mounting hole coated). I'd like to do this modification to an X-Compact slide but may look around for other options, since I think adding the bolt mounting hole could be done by a competent gunsmith for a lot cheaper. |
| I believe it was mentioned in the SIG M17X / M18X tread, not here, but there's one apparent issue with this optic: the battery cap tends to loosen itself over time when live firing. I noticed this after someone pointed it out, and confirmed it again after putting 200 rounds through my M17 yesterday (150 WWB 115 gr and 50 147 gr HSTs). I had tightened the cap a couple months ago (last shot the pistol in February - it's been a busy few months). When I checked it just now, it was finger loose by about 1/8 of a turn. I tightened it back up by hand and then cinched it down with a screwdriver, but I'm going to have to keep tightening it before and after each range session. 200 rounds is way too few for it to be loosening up like this. Hopefully SIG can offer a more solid fix for this, as it's a fantastic optic. I'm going to drop them a note to see what they say. |

Quoted: is there an oring on the battery door or in the threads? I would assume so? check to see if its there/deformed? Sorry, I keep forgetting to reply to your question. Yes, if I recall correctly, there’s a reddish-colored O ring inside the battery compartment (around the battery) that the cap presses down on when you screw it in. It’s secure for the moment, so I don’t want to remove it to take a photo. After the last time it loosed up, I tightened it with a screwdriver (carefully because the sides of the slot in the cab will dent). I shot 50 rounds through it two weeks ago, and it still seems to be tight. I mentioned the loose cap to a SIG rep at their booth at the AUSA Convention today in DC. He hasn’t heard anyone bring up the issue before but said that he would give the feedback to their engineers. He said it should stay in place just by finger tightening but said it’s ok to use a coin or something to tighten it. Bottom line is that it shouldn’t be coming loose during live fire, so he plans to bring it up with the team. |

I'm continuing to enjoy my range experiences with this optic and finding it more comfortable to point and acquire the red dot. I'm still relatively inexperienced with pistol optics but find this one easier to adjust to than my RMR / Glock combo, partly because I find the M17 grip angle much more natural. The battery cap seems to holding tight after 300 rounds since I cranked it down a little more a few months back, but I want to see it go for a thousand before I'm confident that it's not loosening up. Attached File I found another source for the Romeo-M17 optic milling on commercial P320-M17 / M18 slides with the original X-series optic footprint - AB Prototype, who has a good reputation from what I've seen here. Retrofit P320 Slide for Romeo-M17 Optic, M17 or M18 only - $120 Their website has good photos of the milling work that's done to the commercial slide - I was mistaken in thinking that it was just a single bolt hole to secure the rear sight. You can see the two additional shallow holes that they add to the optic footprint in the photo from their website below. I emailed them, and they responded promptly that they should be able to do the modification to my XCompact slide that I'd like to eventually equip with this optic. It's probably going to be a year or more before I can afford another Romeo-M17 though. I may have the milling done in the meantime to prep the pistol for when I can eventually add the optic. Attached File Incidentally, I noticed recently that Dual Hammer's price for the work has gone up to $200, currently on sale for $150. I've updated that in my post above. |

When I found out that SIG was making the Romeo-M17 in black, I decided I wanted one for my carry pistol at some point. They started selling a black M18X with the optic through their professional program a year or so ago, but it doesn't come with a manual safety (which I wanted to match my M17), and it also uses the commercial P320 barrel instead of the military version. SIG added a black slide and optic combo to their LE/MIL catalogue last summer, but it took a long time for it to show up at their LE dealers. I noticed a couple weeks ago that Osage County has the black M17 and M18 Romeo-M17 slide combos listed on their SIG Professional Program website, and they had one M18 combo left, so I grabbed it. Here's how it looks out of the box (apologies for all the fuzz from wiping it down with a paper towel). Attached File Attached File I wanted to combine the slide and optic with a military barrel and FCU, so I used those parts from a M18 POW I bought a while back from Proven Arms. I posted here about some issues I had with the tight fit of the military barrel, but I mostly worked through that. I put 300 rounds through it yesterday and plan to hit 1000 to ensure it's functioning reliably before I start carrying it. Attached File |

I encountered a minor issue with the new black Romeo-M17: about a month after I got it, I got it out for a range trip and discovered the dot was out. The Energizer battery that it came with from the factory had died. The same thing happened with my original tan one that I bought a year and a half ago, also about a month after I got it. I swapped that one out with a fresh battery, and it's been going strong ever since. I put a new battery in the black one, and it seems fine also (time will tell). I'm starting to think that SIG is shipping these with old batteries that have been sitting on a shelf or something. Other than that, it's working great after 800 rounds, and it's still my favorite of the (admittedly small number of) pistol optics that I've tried. Incidentally, I haven't had any issues with either of my two battery caps loosening up since I tightened both down. |

I have replaced the factory batteries with Duracells after the first six months just for my own sanity but I wasn’t experiencing any issues prior. I have done the same on my 4 other Romeo X’s. |

Quoted: Ok, so I'm wanting to put an optic on my M18. I reached 4k rounds on it yesterday with strictly irons and I'm fast and proficient with them. I have a rds on most of my pistols. Variety of Rmr's, acro p2's, 507k's and I'm ready to add one to the M18. I like that the M17 optic is cowitness, enclosed emitter and made specifically for the M17/M18 platform. I don't have any Sig optics to compare to. I'm hard on my shit when using them, but I dont abuse or go out of my way to break shit. I see that there are reports of the lens getting scratched easily and the battery cover becoming loose and the optic shutting off even after repeated tightening. I have the M17 optic in my cart. Before I hit submit and I know this is the M17 optic thread but dont be bias: is this the best M17/M18 rds to get, or should I be looking at something else for this pistol? Thanks gents Gratuitas picture of M18 I want to add rds to: https://i.postimg.cc/X7xnSTmr/Polish-20250420-162210944.jpg Yes it is... but don't take my word for it, watch the sage dynamics video posted above. Eric speaks very highly of the optic during the whole video (battery life, refresh rate, durability, etc.) just didn't like the cost. Also, this optic is covered under Sig's infinite warranty. I have never had to use it, but I did call Sig to purchase extra battery caps for my two just in case they go lost or damaged and they sent them to me for free. Sig has always had top notch customer service from my experience. |
