Had her about a year,  shopped and researched SAA for a year before that.  A lot has changed at Colt over the last 5 years or so.

Here is an interesting article on FA.  http://www.gunsandammomag.com/cs/Satellite/IMO_GA/Story_C/Inside+Freedom+Arms

When I mean they are a diff sroy, FA is pretty much a custom gun.  And they should be at $2000 a pop.  Heck they line bore the cyl ( bore the chamber and cyl whild in the gun.  And while they CNC, they have craftsmen that final finish everything.  More like a heirloom than just a gun.

USFA have craftsmen that final finish the gus as well.

But I'm glad Colt tightened-up the chamber dimensions.

remember when they were like $300 new.

I must be showing my age.   I remember the Python selling for $190 retail back in 1972.

By comparison, a Colt AR-15 was selling for $235 at the time.  A Walther PP in .22 was $122 and a Ruger Standard Model .22 pistol was a whopping $47.50.

Of course, a dollar back then is the same as $5.08 today.

The colt python was the first handgun I ever shot. My girlfriend's dad's 4" inch colt python.
Didn't do so well but my dad got me a 1911 as a grad. present so I got some practice with a handgun.

Shot the same colt python several months later and offhand shot 3 shots of .357 at 15 yards all within a quarter of
an inch. I couldn't believe it. For me this was amazing. However, he will not even think of selling it (i asked).

IMO  the best looking revolver ever. Especially the 4" version.

However, that cylinder release needs to go.

I still don't understand why Colt won't make Python revolvers anymore!

My completely uneducated guess is that,  with today's labor prices, compounded by declining interest in D-A revolvers over the years, plus the extensive "human touch" the Pythons were built with,  would mean a newly manufactured example would probably cost close to 2k ––––-   then they would only sell 40 or 50 of them a year.         A SAA is between 1300 - 1500, and a Python is likely a more complicated gun to manufacture properly

Someone proposed earlier in the thread to CNC 'em and crank 'em out,  like the USFA revolvers.   That would be a cool idea,  but i don't think would be good for the Python, as people expect the hand tuning and custom fitted lockwork but ,  maybe a  newly manufactured CNC King Cobra would be good though !  Price it within a hundred bucks of the 686 and they would sell like hot cakes

It would have to be more than a hundred bucks since the 686 is full of MIM, and has that crush fit barrel.

Though I read on another forum that S&W is going back to doing barrels the right way so they don't fly off with the bullet when you are shooting.
