Keith passed away yesterday. He was a very long time member and one of the nicest guys you would ever meet. He was an incredible photographer and graphics artist. Keep his wife Sony in your prayers. RIP Texas Nomad.

I'll tell my favorite story about Keith. A couple times, Keith took a few of his friends on a trip to Utah. He went for photography. The rest of us came along just for trouble. TheRedGoat, Mojo, Txlewis, and I. We generally started drinking as soon as we loaded up, and it stayed that way for a week. Mostly TRG, but I digress. We played a game, where everyone threw like $100 into a pot, and the last man who had not lost his shit, got to keep it. Keith *always* was out of the pot first. I think this was on our second trip, and Keith has just gotten a new to him Ford Explorer for the trip. He didn't trust people easily, and I think I might have been the only other one trusted to drive it. Were were in nowhere, New Mexico.... and right before Keith decided to let me drive so he could take a nap, he stressed to me the importance of stopping for gas at some town he had memorized, from his dozensof previous Utah trips. He made it CLEAR that if we did not fill up there, we would run out trying to press farther. I assured him I had it well under control, and to get some sleep. Well, I intentionally blew right past that "last stop". He snoozed for hours, and when he woke, it took him a few minutes to evaluate the situation. Once he figured out where we actually were, and that the "EMPTY" light was on the dash.... he started to freak. I calmly explained: "Keith.... I didn't come here for the pictures. I came here for the memories. I came here to go hiking with my buddies. I don't really care about these trees, rocks, and sky. It doesn't matter to me where we go hiking, as long as we are all together. So we might as well just go hiking right here, right now, on the side of the road in Nowhere, New Mexico, as anywhere else." He lost his shit. We took a vote, and he was out of the pot.  I never got to drive again. |

Some tidbits about my friend, Keith: --Photography and guns were his favorite hobbies. --Known to go to cemetery--alone-- at nights for photo. --Bought cases and cases of ammo. So he used them as nightstands (his words, not mine). --At Hun farm, he loved to unload a 30 rds mag on fire ant hill. Guess he didn't like fire ants. --He loved nature and National Parks, in US and other countries. --Particularly, he went to Arches NP at least 7 times. Why dude? His reply: Because it looks different every time a photo is taking. --When hiking in NP, if he saw a candy wrapper on the ground, he'd pick it up and commented: Why these f*ckers trashed MY National Park?!?!? I smiled and got a chuckle out that. --He could spend 1 week in Arches, Escalante, CanonLand, in a dead of winter...Alone...Just for photo. --Keith, TRG, FALARAK, and I went Arches in '05 or '06 (can't remember). Keith asked: So..What you guys think so far?? FALARAK replied: All I see are ROCKS. --TRG and FALARAK just loved to give him sh*t...Brotherly love. ETA: posted from the other thread. |
