I bought a 2022 Colorado Z71 Trail Boss V6 thinking i could get bigger tires on it. NOPE. It is a great truck, but it is almost impossible to get 35's on it. 33's is a challenge. I have a 4" lift and still struggling to get 33's on it. Instead of spending $5k more, i am thinking of a new truck. Prefer new, midsize, V6, the ability to get 35's without a 6" lift without all the BS and under $50k. Truck or SUV. Which and why? edit: Nothing extreme. I never plan on rock climbing. mud bogging, etc. |

I had 33's on my fullsize 94 Bronco and it was very capable. Lockers/traction aides are more important than huge tires. ETA: I had a torsen type front diff, and an auburn posi with 800lb preload springs in the rear. |
Award: 24/365 Most likely to be an appendix.

You can get 35" tires under a 4Runner with coils, spacers, a body lift, and mild trimming. @Finslayer83 @jafrush You said new so I won't suggest the GOAT 200 Series which will fit 33.4" 275/70R18 stock and will go anywhere it will fit. ![]() Attached File |

Hindsight being 20/20, a 2022 4runner is the way i feel i should have went. But aren't the 2024 4runners and tacos are having issues. 4runner or a Jeep were the two others i was looking at in 2022. The stories of out of warranty Jeep repair costs spooked me. |

Not trying to be that guy, but if you're not doing anything hardcore, you will have a much better time going 33-34 than all the way to 35. Especially it's a gen 5 4R (10-24). 34s look big on 4Rs. I do wheel my Toyotas hard, and my biggest tire is a 33. Fwiw. |

You're getting a lot of hurr-durr it's a turbo-4 in the new Tacos, 4Runners, and Land Cruisers from people. The new engines make more power, and a LOT more torque than the engines they replace, and materials science has come a long way. These are the same that complained you could not get a V8 in the last gen. The 8 speed that Toyota has behind their turbo-4's has had some problematic lots, mostly in Mexican-assembled Tacomas (all of them are now). It looked like there were some differential-disconnect issues here and there too, but it's unclear if that's actually common enough to worry about. The (ending 2024?) 5th gen 4Runner is solid, using very old but proven technologies, like a 5 speed auto trans and only port fuel injection, and I know a couple of people pushing 300k miles with only maintenance. People complain a lot that they're "gutless" but fail to realize that Toyota tunes their stuff so that when you push the gas pedal down 50% you're at something like 28% throttle. You need to run higher revolutions or really get into it for the engine to wake up and run in its powerband. |

It has a TRD intake and exhaust on it - it sounds mean, and like you said, get into it and also use the sequential mode to hold/downshift gears and its fine. No you're not winning drag races but that's not what any of these trucks are for. 33's all day, 34's with a BMC. 35's are doable but you're greatly hitting diminishing returns on that platform with them. |

I will go out on a pretty solid limb and say that the 5th Gen 4Runner is probably going to be the most durable and reliable vehicle you can buy in the United States. The 1GR-FE 4.0V6 is agricultural, outdated, and down on power but it is absolutely rock solid and as reliable as the tides. If someone told me they had to buy a new 4WD vehicle and they wanted it to last 500k? 2024 4Runner, hands down. Attached File The new 2025 4Runners are starting to show up from Japan so I imagine there will be deals to be had on the 2024 models. If you need all new newness in powertrains, infotainment and interior and exterior styling then the incoming 4Runner might fit the bill. If you are good with the dated but proven outgoing platform, by all means get the 2024. The new Land Cruiser is fucking awesome. Like jafrush I initially took a shit on them when they were announced and the specs were released. A Hybrid 4? In a fucking Land Cruiser? I was wrong. I was so wrong we bought one to complement my 200 Series. My girl absolutely loves it. Attached File The 1958 Edition Cruisers are in the mid-50k range and I understand some dealers are dealing to the tune of $2k-$3k off MSRP. Might be worth a look. |

I really like my 2024 LC250 and my 2023 Jeep Gladiator. The Jeep Gladiator Rubicon and Mojave will fit 36s without a lift. It will fit 37s with a small 2 or 3 inch lift. Plus Jeeps are heavily discounted at the moment. Attached File 2023 Gladiator on 37s , Stage 4 ICON lift Attached File If I had the money my LC would look like this. Attached File |

35's are a wishlist for something like a Jeep. I would be happy if i could get 33's on this truck, but it looks like they will rub the body mount. This truck has been great, knock on wood, so i hate getting rid of it, because i know what i got. It will take a good deal and the right set up to get rid of it. The other option is to keep the Colorado and find a TJ project weekend rider. |

If you like your Colorado, keep it stock, put some decent 32s on it, and drive the wheels off it. If you decide you want to do really hard trails, get a beater and go straight to tons and 40s. |

I dont plan on mud bogging, but all the trails here have deep ruts. I would like to have a fighting chance. |

Sounds like you want a Jeep. I've owned 3 Toyotas. With 33s I've been more limited by the level of body damage I'm willing to accept rather than the size of the tire. At least on the mid-sized Toyotas, the bump to 35s requires more effort to fit them and has a negative impact on driveability in addition to increased wear and tear on the CVs. I think Toyota finally moved the body mount on the 4th gen Tacoma; 2nd and 3rd gens need a chop to clear big tires. |
