Just read this. If already old news . Kill post for me. JP BIG WIN for the 2nd Amendment! It is official: President Trump’s DOJ just dropped a bombshell that changes everything for gun owners. In a stunning move, the Department of Justice declared that the century-old federal ban on mailing handguns (and other concealable firearms) through the USPS is UNCONSTITUTIONAL and can’t be enforced anymore! This historic 15-page opinion from the Office of Legal Counsel, penned by Assistant Attorney General T. Elliot Gaiser on Jan 15, makes it crystal clear: this 1927 law (18 U.S.C. § 1715) violates our right to keep and bear arms. For decades, this ban has made it harder to travel with guns for lawful purposes like self-defense, hunting, or target shooting. It unfairly blocks law-abiding citizens from shipping protected firearms to themselves or others without using expensive private carriers. The Key quote from the OLC opinion says it all: "We conclude that the restriction imposed by section 1715 violates the Second Amendment… We are aware of no historical analogues that would satisfy the government’s burden..." The DOJ has now ordered that the USPS must modify its regulations immediately. | So the doj declares it unsconstitutional.... unless they chose not to defend it in a court case then that just means that the next dem doj can choose to enforce again. Not sure how this is such great news. I'm okay with it but not enough until it is off the books. |

Congress should put some language in the next appropriations bill stating USPS cannot prohibit mailing of any firearm to ones self an FFL or manufacturer (yes I know they are a FFL but people are stupid). Would be great for travel through states that hate freedom when you don’t want to fly. |
