My 19-year-old son started training this summer with the objective to solo by summers end before school started. He soloed around the pattern 4 times in Brownville, TX before he taxied back in. His mother and I were wondering when he was going to finish as every landing is stressful for anxious parents. The first three landing were perfect. On the fourth the wind was picking up and the Cessna 150 floated quite a bit, but I was happy to see him stay on centerline and fly the plane down smoothly. He is still wearing his shirt with the back cut out for our ceremonial chicken 'wings' lunch. Great times! |

Congratulations, first solo is a big deal. Whether or not he makes it by the end of summer is up to him, how fast he learns, examiner availability and weather. Some can do it in 45 hours others like me over 100. I just passed the check ride last week, it's hard but is a real accomplishment. Having a pilots certificate, you enter a very small group of people. |
