Who cares what they do? Unless you only keep grandpa's old single shot .22 and a social security card in your "safe", you should be buying a TL30x6 anyway. |

Quoted: Great thread OP. I laughed a lot at the great humor. Quoted: Great thread OP. I laughed a lot at the great humor. The only thing more humorous than my thread are gun guys with $100,000 firearm collections and precious metals storing their stuff in RSCs LOL I know what they did. Why do folks care? I don't care what cars Geely builds because I'd never buy one. |

| It’s nothing new. This has been happening for a very long time but we are in a time in society where we all need to be offended about everything. They had a warrant, which is lawful. It’s not like liberty saying “no” would have really stopped the search from happening. Liberty did not Willie nillie give codes away. Don’t buy massed produced things if you want security. |

If your position on this isn't "Why did Liberty have the codes in the first place?" you're not thinking about this correctly. You can't give away what you don't have. There should not be a "factory tech" backdoor into a safe. If there is, there had better damn well be a way to change the default "admin" password and no easy way to bypass it. Liberty's design sucks. |

Back around 1991, we got a call to help serve a warrant on a guy named Greg Garbe in Tulsa. His parents were rich and owned a big interior decorating store. Greg was allegedly caught with porn and illegal weapons so they got a search warrant for his place and found 4 or 5 gun safes and he refused to give up the combinations. About a hundred guns and about 3k of ammo...I know several members here who have personal collections bigger than that The locks were pretty simple, Sargent & Greenleaf IIRC, and since we had custody of the safes we had infinite time to get into them. My boss first suggested we used an "auto-dialer" and get the combinations in a day or two without fucking up the safes WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO USE DESTRUCTIVE METHODS OF ENTRY. I'm not sure who gave that order but I'm pretty sure it was one of the RAC's at one of the Tulsa .fed offices, I won't say which one because he's retired now, but he was really pissed off Garbe wouldn't give them the numbers. It was a little "fuck you, then we'll destroy your legal property" ...so we destroyed 5 privately owned safes, for absolutely no good reason IIRC, the charges that actually stuck were bullshit. He couldn't find his paperwork on one silencer or something like that Garbe DID end up deaded by suspicious means out by Keystone Lake shortly after...never did hear what ended up with that |

Quoted: Why do they have the code? Why is there a way for the factory to get into my safe after they sell it to me? Bad design. Because people are retarded and will forget/lose the combo Then there would be bitching about how "I bought an expensive safe and now its worthless, Ive put the correct combo in 87 times" |
|
Quoted: The irony is it’s not like they wouldn’t have gotten in, that just made it easier. Liberty safes can be peeled open on the side in 30 seconds with a 4.5” angle grinder. His guns were in no way safe from the feds before Liberty cooperated with the subpoena . that's what we ended up using, angle grinders a crowbars |

Warrants based on going inside the capitol after capitol police let them in aren't lawful. |

Quoted: how secure are safes that I program in the electronic combo? can they get some master code from the company? Yes I know they can cut them open... unless you changed out the entire lock...yes and then the company still knows the drill points to hold the re-lockers back while they drill and punch the cam out of the back of the lock |

His guns were in no way safe from the feds before Liberty cooperated with the subpoena . I completely understand the indignation of the people, but technically speaking, whether it was righteous or not, the feds had a warrant. Instead of punching the safe, Liberty provided the code. It could be as simple as Liberty was trying to preserve their customer’s property. Would it have been nice if they said, “Break it open, you’re not getting a code from us.” Maybe, but I think the pivot would then be, “Reeeeee!!! Look at how easy the feds got into a Liberty Safe!” |

Quoted: Who cares what they do? Unless you only keep grandpa's old single shot .22 and a social security card in your "safe", you should be buying a TL30x6 anyway. Safe owners do. They likely expected that Liberty wouldn't hand over codes without being presented with a specific warrant for that code. |

Instead of punching the safe, Liberty provided the code. It could be as simple as Liberty was trying to preserve their customer’s property. It is much more likely that Liberty is trying to avoid running afoul of the authorities. The reality is that if there is a search warrant and a safe is encountered, the same agency that got the search warrant can probably get the warrant to open the safe. But you make them do that on general principle. |

Has a warrant ever gotten Apple to unlock an iPhone? I love it when a guy that doesn’t understand what is happening tries to insult others with his superior intelligence. Especially after Liberty admitted their fuck up and changed their policy. |

In a just world a judge may actually review the request and wonder why they need access to a gun safe that is completely unrelated to the criminal case against him. |

Quoted: Even super-left Apple won’t let the feds into your phone. Quoted: Quoted: Mostly because the FBI wanted into a guy's safe and Liberty gave them master codes... I think. Even super-left Apple won’t let the feds into your phone. That’s because they can’t. If they could, they’d be letting the feds into your phone when the feds asked. Where liberty messed up was maintaining a database of customers and manufacturer’s reset codes. You can’t give up what you don’t have. |
| Because anything another conservative does that doesn’t line up with what a conservative person thinks they would’ve done is always treason…except the same “conservative” people buy from Amazon, drink woke beer, give Disney money and invest with Vanguard…but that’s different. |

Quoted: Yes, unless you want the feds to be able to get into them with a phone call. Quoted: Quoted: Should I throw my two liberty safes away now? ![]() Yes, unless you want the feds to be able to get into them with a phone call. See, here's the thing: if the Feds want into your safe they're getting in whether they get the code or not. The real issue is WHY are they trying to get into your safe? That's the issue we need to be attacking, not Liberty. |
