I read somewhere that Rory took the 3 weeks leading up to the Masters to play practice rounds at Augusta. He supposedly flew from Florida each day to play a round with a member. If true it seems like an unfair advantage over the other players. But then the other guys could have done the same thing. I’m sure most members would jump at the chance to golf with a PGA tour player. I don’t remember where I read that and I haven’t seen it anywhere else so I can’t say for sure it’s true. |

IIRC, Augusta opens it up to the invitees 3 weeks before the tournament. Probably don't let them out a day or two before the Am ladies tee it up, but I'd bet they get to use the practice facility and slither around for an evening 9. Members show up. Guessing Augusta doesn't get much play otherwise. |

I've never heard of a player posting up at a club for 2-3 weeks leading up to a tournament. I had heard of Tiger going there a week prior. But I don't follow pros that closely. |

Well, I didn’t say “every pro golfer” can go play it. I said everyone in that year’s field is welcome before tournament week — including the amateurs. It’s always been that way there. It’s also widely known that past Masters champions get extra benefits and privileges on property, so it’s not really a surprise that they would accommodate the reigning champion — arguably the club’s most popular champion since Tiger — in his return this year. |
