If you have LOTS of time and energy, maybe a dog. But it will be half your life and forget about long work days, travel, vacations, etc. Also your house will be filthy all the time. After trying a dog (lasted for 2 weeks, tore up my house, ate my work pager) I settled on a cat. I love cats and they are perfect for me. Some company and companionship but low maintenance and they dont really need you 24/7 like a dog. |

i like dogs. but as mentioned above -- cats are great pets in their own way. much lower maintenance required generally. for instance you can leave your cat for a few days if you go out of town for a long weekend. just a little extra chow, water and a second litter box and he's good to go. can't do that with a dog. so a lot can depend on your habits, lifestyle, other commitments, etc. |

Depends on the persons lifestyle. Work long hours, irregular hours, take vacations, live in an apartment, etc?...then a cat would be the better choice. Dogs are very needy in comparison. I like dogs, but I would rather own a cat. They take care of themselves. (I have one of each)

I have both. My cat is family, my dogs are employees. But it depends, if you are young & single and value your freedom, skip the pets. Few great things about cats is you don't have to bath them, they don't need you, they know when you've had a shitty day, they don't bark at every fucking noise, they are really just tiny little tigers and will go full on tiger if they have to. They do need lots of stimulation & engagement, something most people don't realize. |

Dog. I was just house-sitting my sister's place. She has 3 dogs. All they wanted to do was play and cuddle with me on the couch. The poodle was a crackhead about it lol! How can you not love an animal that looks at you like... |

Dog, because cat piss stinks. all cats can be trained to go to the door and scratch the jamb & meow wildly to be let out, but majority of men get busy doing something (a chick) & don't pay attention for a bit and ol'meowzer gets tired of waiting goes to couch and pisses on it. |

Depends on your situation. Not home much, lacking in spare time? Get a cat. Older, settled in, time to kill? Dog I'm a get both kinda person, I just love animals though. So far though, my Great Dane is the best of both worlds. No separation anxiety if we go out, but he loves attention when we are at home. I just have to get used to having Clydesdale sized turds in my yard. |

I can go on vacation on a dime, no worries no problems. Cats get extra food and the garage door gets cracked a few inches. Wife cannot be away from home for more than a few hours. The dogs are non-stop work even when they are healthy, not puking or spraying diarrhea. She cannot even walk out the front door without drama since the dogs will run out, chase someone, not listen, etc. |

My dog passed away a few years ago, and I live in a place where you can't let it out by itself and have to walk it. Problem is I'm have a hard time walking without a lot of pain. It was too quiet not having a pet, so I got a cat. Enzo is a awesome cat, but I do miss having a dog. Attached File |
