Tell me about drinking tequila and Mezcal from a bowl. Should I buy a clay bowl, a glass bowl, a wooden bowl, ceramic bowl? Where would I buy a traditional clay or wooden bowl? Does it change the taste depending on the bowl? Go to walmart and find a small bowl i like? |

Strange. Learn something new here every day... I love Tequila have collected a few nice examples and have killed many a bottle, but never heard of a sipping bowl for doing it. You know I had to G.T.S.. Apparently, a Copitais is what you seek. "Copita" primarily refers to a tulip-shaped glass, often used for tasting spirits like mezcal or tequila, and sometimes for sherry. It can also be used more generally to describe a small, dainty cup. Drinking tequila and mezcal from a bowl, specifically a copita, is a traditional way to enjoy these spirits, allowing for a fuller appreciation of their aromas and flavors. Copitas are shallow, bowl-shaped vessels, often made of clay, with a wide mouth that allows for easy sipping and nose-to-spirit interaction. |

Haven't updated my membership so can't post pics...... I found a beautiful cut-crystal "cup" that I use for my Mezcal (I think it's actually a holder for a short flat candle). It works wonderfully. I also discovered years ago that the glass / cup makes a big difference in the experience of liqours - and yes, a small dish / bowl is the way to go for Mezcal. I prefer something else for Tequila. I bought a few of these from ikea. They're technically for "condiments" but serve to give a good large surface area to my mezcal, and seem to make it more enjoyable than a glencairn or standard rocks glass.  It shouldn't be hard to find something suitable, I'm still on the lookout for something "traditional", though, myself. |
