I want the quintessential, classic, working mans Speedmaster. What reference should I target? It's time to reward myself & further my collection. |

I have been shopping for one as well. I have decided the 3570.50.00 is what i want. 42mm, 1861 manual movement, hesalite crystal. As close as i can get to the original moon watch without it being too old. $5000 and up. I would skip the reduced, 39-38mm. I've read of some having issues. If you have a budget less than that, the full size that are not moon watches will be less. Like older Speedmaster Racing and Speedmaster Date. |

I did the sapphire sandwich. It's 310.30.42.50.01.002. Used it wasn't terribly more than the hesalite version. I wear it almost every day and wanted the added scratch resistance with the crystal coming up out of the face, and I still scratched the crap out of it by smacking it on something. It isn't that noticeable when just looking at it, but here's a good picture of it. Attached File I also love the movement, I think the case back shines here. |

Have had it new since 1974. It is an original, not a re-issue. It is a bit beat up because I wore it every day including when flying the eagle for 16 years. It is on it's second sapphire crystal. Attached File |

I thought of looking in the used department for a Speedy pro sapphire sandwich, but for my firsr "real" luxury watch, I want the boutique experience. I do have a Tag Heuer Connected 4 smart watch that I got from the boutique and it was fun, but I imagine getting a brand new Speedy from Omega boutique would be amazing. |

Probably unpopular, but thought I'd share an alternate viewpoint. I bought a gently used sapphire-sandwich moonwatch about 8 years ago. I love how it looks and the exposed movement through the caseback. It's truly iconic and I'll pass it down to my grandkids someday. That said, it's my least worn "nice" watch. With real respect to the Eagle driver above who's obviously put in the work through the years, I don't think it's a great daily wear. The combination of no screw-down crown, exposed pushers, no hacking seconds, and a near-zero practical requirement for a tachymeter keeps it in the case more than on my wrist. YMMV and buy what you like, as always. |

When hacking the watch you set the minute hand ahead to the time you are going to hack, then when the little seconds hand gets to the '60' point at the top, with the 'wind and set' knob pulled out, you put slight pressure backwards and it stops the watch completely including the seconds hand for a time hack, and then when you hack it you just push the knob in or let it go and then push it in. I never had a problem hacking the watch with everybody else and I did it on a daily basis. The exposed pushers were designed that way for operation while wearing flight gloves. I used the tachymeter a lot, to check ground speed in the air. In the analog world of 1960s to the 1980s it was a great watch and it was made for flight and space flight. Now it is more of a piece of history and like I said, I beat mine up by using it for what it was designed for even though my parents gave it to me when I was 14 and I didn't start flying until 2 years later. I wish i had kept it in better shape, but I actually used it for what it was designed for so I kinda think of it as a relic, like some people like relic guitars.  |

A properly worn watch is a thing of beauty. Just like an old GI 1911. The worn finish is a timeline that can tell its story. You should document these stories to pass down with the watch. |

It looks good. Sapphire sandwich, you can worry less about scratching the crytal. The watch in total is solid. If you aren't really interested in the old moonwatch stuff (manual, hesalite crystal, solid back, etc.) that went to the moon, then the one in your link great. I am not sure about buying off reddit. I dont buy off reddit, Ebay or any auction site. Too many issues and scammers. I see it from mid $6k to low $7k. Jomashop has one with a strap for $6300. Watchfinder has one with the solid back for $6180. link I just got mine from Watchfinder. They did me a solid. I would highly recommend Watchfinder. |

Very nice indeed. Ive been invited to a Speedmaster event next week at my local boutique and I think a watch technician will be there, but I am looking forward to putting that Apollo 8 on my wrist to see how it looks. Probably come away with a Hesaltite Speedy though haha |
