| I don't even understand how this is news. You have to realize that your data is the product and there's any number of things they're doing with it. They more or less did targeted advertising, which is one of the main purposes of Big Data. It's just now that people are realizing they're agreeing to be manipulated so they can post pics and status updates with friends. |

If I were Zuckerberg I'd have been working an exit strategy long, long ago. Nothing like this lasts. There's always something new. They've held out because they have the money to keep buying new technology and they have a massive userbase, domestic and international. But the clock is always ticking. Look how fast Facebook destroyed Myspace. |

Several of us tried Facebook shortly after it hit the Internet. I pulled the plug when unwanted people and ads kept cropping up on my page and I discovered that my privacy settings kept being lowered.
The fact that it was free was a dead giveaway that Facebook members and their personal data were the products Zuckerberg was peddling.

Let's see, we'll make a website where everyone posts every inane detail of their stupid lives, and we'll be data rich!! Brilliant. And people are upset that their data is being sold/used AFTER they post all their bullshit for the world to see? I hate Zuck and FB as much as the next guy, but honestly no fucks given about this "issue" What I really want to see is the moaning and wailing of those who spend every day on that website and painstakingly detail every facet of their lives on it. |
