I have a fair amount of silver pre 1964 coins. Mostly dimes, quarters, half dollars, and dollars. Quite a few lbs of it. Think I got it maybe 35 years ago when I was a kid. If I remember correctly I paid somewhere around $5 per oz. Obviously the price is WAY up. Thinking of selling it. Would probably just reinvest into stocks. I don’t need the money. Clearly the market is going like crazy at the moment. I know there will be many opinions on when to sell (including never!)….but when would YOU sell? I know none of us can perfectly time the market. Would you wait longer or sell now? I know there are a lot of predictions out there and none of them really know what will happen. But some people on both sides have solid reasoning to either sell or hold. I’m definitely NOT buying. |

| I already sold the bulk of mine of mine and put the money into the market. As fun as it is watching silver run lots of my larger stock positions have outperformed it in the past several years and I can sell without the hassle of dealing with dealers and massive bid / ask spreads. |

I'd sell now, if I had any left. I sold everything I had in 2011 when it hit $48.70/oz. Actually, I sold it a couple of weeks after that, for around $35 spot price for all the pieces that didn't have a higher numismatic value. I had about 100 pieces that were priced according to numismatic value because it was higher than spot price. I hate I did it today, but I needed the cash back then pretty bad. ETA, I'm talking about physical silver and silver coinage, not stocks. I would probably hold onto silver stock until it started to drop, and buy back in when it went back down to it's new bottom, wherever that settles at. |

What is “quite a few pounds”? Even 10 pounds of pure silver is maybe $10k today. Factor in that not all of your old coins are pure silver and you’re talking maybe $6-8k for 10 pounds? If the cash will make a big difference in your life then sell it. If you really don’t need the cash I’d probably sell a bit to get maybe double your principal and keep the rest since it is now “free”. I have some pounds of old coins I got as presents when I was a kid and some of my dad’s coin collection, probably a similar amount as above. I could sell it all and throw the $5-10k into savings and it wouldn’t change my life so I figure why sell it? |

For about eight years, I sold Chinese Modern coins, mostly Pandas. Did coin shows all over Florida, even set up at the F.U.N show. Thousands of silver Pandas and gold ones were delt. About four years ago, due to COVID and lots of anti-China vibes, I sold out everything. Well, what was left. Damn do I wish I had a few hundred of them now, not the thirty in the safe. |

Don't have enough to make a noticeable difference in my overall investments, but it would have to get to a very high valuation against gold or platinum (like 20:1 to gold) in order to make me part with it, and even then, it would essentially be a trade for the other metal. That would put silver around $225, provided gold/platinum do not move any higher, which they have been. I think platinum is undervalued also. Gold is mined at over 10x the rate of platinum. |

Silverbugs always say it is "going up".... but they only know how to sing one song. Personally? I didn't have a lot left, and I sold 2/3 of it once it crested $70 SPOT. I'm going to see what happens in a week or two for the rest. Given a look at history, these severe short term runups always result in severe drops. There is zero FOMO amongst buyers. Anyone who claims there is, is a moron and just regurgitating marketing influence from people who profit from retail sales. Dealers have plenty of inventory.... this runup is not driven by retail. The only question is.... where does the runup stop? $80? $100? $150? Nobody knows. But it will stop, and it will drop, that much I can guarantee. How much it will drop and how quickly..... again, nobody knows. We can only look at history and *assume* nothing in fundamentally different this time. And keep in mind, those who worship the shiny things *always* say it is "different this time". Mindless lemmings should be ignored. My questions to you would be.... 1. What did you buy silver for? Did anything change that nullifies that reason to hold it? 2. If you sell at $80, and it runs up to $160, will that bother you for not being clairvoyant enough to call the perfect peak? |

All valid points. I bought it many years ago. I was a kid. My dad was/is a big believer in precious metals and silver in particular. I didn’t have an opinion one way or another at the time but he was convinced it was the right financial move. Of course, in the 35 years since, I’ve discovered how wrong he was about pretty much anything financial. I’ve just tossed it in a hidden spot in my house in the many years since and pretty much forgot about it. I’ve started thinking it’s time to sell. I have multiple pensions and retirement investment accounts so, while everyone likes money, in the grand scheme of things, the amount of money is pretty meaningless. Long term, my plan was to sit on it till I retired and then use it to take a few vacation trips. Now I’m thinking of selling, putting it into my brokerage account, and investing it….then use it for a few trips after I retire! |

I don’t have enough to sell but I do have a bunch of electrical contacts that I need to get processed. Probably 100 pounds but most of that is copper holding the contact. When I saw the silver chart the other day it reminded me of the tech stock chart right before that bubble busted about 2000. I would be tempted to hold for that 100 like others above me and then only sell half. But I only have 30 or so ounces in Eagles and Mexican coins that they make ranger badges from. Beautiful coin BTW So I am happy for you all but silver eagles are going to be pricy for stocking stuffers from here on out. |

In this subforum and two others I read (one of which has a reputation for FOMO), silver makes up about a quarter of post topics right now. The internet appears frenzied with interest, and trading volume has increased for SLV. Futures gapped up, despite the margin requirement going up like 12%. I won’t claim to know that FOMO is solely responsible, and it probably isn’t, but it certainly looks to be present. I’d agree that the downside seems hazardous, I think even asymmetric, and I’m not buying. |
| There is some info out there about JPMorgan cornering the market and going long on silver. That and Chinas coming export restrictions plus industrial demand, silver could go up a lot. OTOH, since its all manipulated IMHO, its a crap shoot whether you get out at the high or not. I bought at 15$ spot but dont own enough to make a bit of difference. So Im holding out for 200$ spot. |

My father bought about 1000 ounces back at $25 or so and has been selling it off 100 ounces at a time periodically since we hit $60. I only have 100 ounces in a mixture of 1 oz bars, 1 oz rounds and a few sleeves of 1 ounce coins all purchased at $25-30 an ounce. Buying such a small amount wasn't really an investment decision in the first place, I don't need the money and certainly don't want to pay taxes on it so there isn't as much motivation for me to sell right now. |

The only silver coins/rounds/bars I have I inherited. Those aren't going to be sold and it wouldn't bother me if my daughter eventually inherited them. Once the refiners start accepting scrap again I have broken silver and gold jewelry ready to ship. |

The Asians were still majority rice farming peasants, AI and quantum computers were science fiction, and solar energy was in its infancy the last time we hit inflation adjusted highs in silver, so yes, things ARE different this time. International arbitrage is a thing now. If western bankers and lawmakers want to artificially suppress prices the east will be more than happy to buy up the world's silver at a premium to advance their tech markets and back their currencies. |

YouTuber "Sreetips" who recovers gold and silver from jewelry said something about selling silver when it hits $100/oz in one of his videos. Until then he mostly hoards it in crystals he grew in his electrolytic silver cells. |

| I'd sell now. When silver crashes, it'll be harder then an aging 40 year old female with 3 kids trying to find a decent man. |

Holding a substantial amount of silver since the 1980's. Not buying more, or selling, unless silver hits $99+. Yes, I bought some of my silver during the "Hunt Brothers" run-up in silver prices. For better or worse, I used to hang out in coin shops, mostly a coin collector. Yes, I paid too much for some silver and still hold it, but I stopped buying silver way before it hit $50 an ounce. |

Sadly, I sold a bunch of silver a little over a year ago. I got tired of it doing nothing for years so I cashed out. Yeah, I know. It is what it is . . . With that proof of my great wisdom about precious metals, I'll share what a pawnbroker/metals dealer friend told me the other day. His take was that we will see a retraction in the price of silver. He thought silver would probably eventually settle around $50 per ounce. I thought that was reasonable. If that's true, then now would be a good time to sell. I find it unlikely there is a whole lot of more upside ahead. If you believe "buy low, sell high" is sound investment advice, the market should be telling you something. |
