SHTF will happen when the National Grid goes down and can't be brought back up in a few days . Whether it is because of enemy cyber attack, EMP or major screw up. The longer it is down, the worse it will get. How long do you think things will remain civil in big cities without water / sewer , food, lights, heat, A/C etc?
Tens of millions of people who are hanging on to civilization by a thread on a good day. People who can't wipe their ass without the government holding their hand. And unlike a localized disaster like a hurricane, no help waiting just outside to rush in as soon as the storm passes. Shit in the hallways of high rise buildings, food running out in a matter of days. Looting, raping and pillaging, not in just one or two hoods but in cities all across the country. Disease , Cholera, hepatitis, typhoid. |

I read this back when it was an article, now it's a book on Amazon. The Modern Survival Manual: Surviving the Economic Collapse- about the economics collapse in Argentina. I thought it was earlier, but it says 2001. As some above pointed out. It's not sudden. It's a slow boil. When neighbors, etc., start losing income, food, etc. SHTF begins. Dangers: - Guys wearing a herringbone jacket, not the guys in black hoodies. it's your neighbors, who didn't prepare, and their families are hungry. - Stop signs and traffic lights become a hard pass. You stop, you're done. - Entering/exiting your home. Here again. You're working and eating, your neighbors aren't. I'm on the fence about teaming up with neighbors. Our closest friends moved 20 minutes from us. They have the room, and some prep, but bugging out for me would be a large ordeal. Ideally, we'd have adjacent properties. I think about our neighbors. I actually size them up for their usefulness  My freaking pool spring a leak in the off season. The kids are older, but that was 7,000 gallons of water at my disposal (I only use bleach, so taking water from the pool, and letting it sit in sunlight makes it potable in short order).Anyway, I know folks here have the land, buffer, etc., from folks and the ability to store everything they could need. Suburbia is a bit tougher to survive without teaming up with neighbors. |

Then a month later they will start seizing people's assets once converted.
